As part of our commitment to investing in the future of aviation, we are sponsoring a group of University of Adelaide students with their Engineering Honours Project to develop, manufacture and test a distributed electric propulsion (DEP) aircraft with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. This week, the project team presented to senior members of our Airborne Solutions team, showcasing their progress to date. We were extremely impressed with their methodology and innovation to engineer the drone, and we look forward to seeing its maiden flight soon. ❤ Supporting our communities ❤ Through our Cairns Community Fund, we were thrilled to support the Cairns Surf Life Saving Club to purchase a flotation device to help young swimmers in their Nippers Club feel more confident swimming in the ocean. Several of our Cairns-based families are involved in this club that helps young people be safer in and around the ocean – learning correct techniques for swimming, where to swim on the beach, how to identify rips and safe beach practices. We are currently working with Industry Skills Australia to re-shape the Certificate III and Certificate IV in aviation, to enable us to issue nationally recognised qualifications to our aircrew. We initiated the review as there is currently no national qualification that recognises the complexities our crews face, and the specialist skills they require to execute their missions. As part of this work, last month we were pleased to host Mori Hajizadeh, Industry Engagement Manager - Aviation & Space, at our Essendon base to meet our search-and-rescue mission aircrew training team and get a better understanding of our operation. We had a great time chatting to STEM students at the Grad Girls - Women 4 STEM Career & Networking Night last week.
