Thank you to Erin Cabrey and the crew at Retail Brew for this piece on Linktree's entrance into social commerce. As we head into beta, we've welcomed thousands of brands into our marketplace including adidas, lululemon and Shopbop -- all of whom have figured out that creators are the storefronts of now. The marriage of content + commerce continues to explode across social platforms, with 50%+ of all GenZ (and ahem, some of us older than that 😎) are making purchase decisions based on being influenced online. With now more than 50+ million linkers in our community, Linktree is poised to truly democratize this space, making it possible for creators of all size and scale to make meaningful revenue from their content. Between speed, quality and scope, something has to give. That was my answer when Harry Stebbings asked if speed sits in contradiction to quality when building products. In terms of what I’m most willing to trade off… ⚡ #Speed of shipping and rapid iteration cycles are critical. Your product (and your company!) will live and die by how quickly you learn. ✅ You also can’t trade off on #quality. Users’ first experience is like a match, you get one shot at lighting it right. Particularly with new products. ⚙ #Scope is how expansive your feature set is. It’s the thing I’m most willing to trade off because the sooner you can deliver a minimum loveable product, the sooner you can solidify what that feature set should look like. And we felt the pain of only being able to direct your audience’s attention to one thing. So we built Linktree. And for 4 years, we ran it as a side hustle. When Melbourne City Council created a Linktree, we couldn’t believe it. When we hit 1,000 users, we couldn’t believe it. When The Guardian, The Grammys, and the continent of South America signed up, we couldn’t believe it. Today, we took over Times Square celebrating our 50 million Linkers. What a ride. Just a couple of weeks ago I was listening to 20VC's interview with Sam Altman and Brad Lightcap. What an honor to be featured by Harry Stebbings, one of the biggest OG VC podcasters.🎙️ Harry is totally right about Linktree being underestimated. Linktree has over 45M Linkers, 2B monthly visitors, and 750M monthly unique visitors. We have a strong SaaS business, and haven’t yet monetized our visitor traffic. Linktree isn’t just a simple link in bio and we’re just getting started. 🚀 Did I mention I’m hiring? So much fun speaking at #sxsw2024 about the future of the attention economy (hint: authenticity reigns) 🙌 As a brand, you can thrive by: 💸 Re-allocating your marketing spend to creators. Use paid marketing to amplify creators’ content. 💪🏻 Empower creators to co-define how they promote your product as they know their audience best. Don’t provide a rigid brief with pre-determined messaging. 🎬 Brands are creators. Ditch overly polished content across your socials. Take people behind the scenes and produce content that centers on real people. This is the era of the micro and nano creator. And it’s an era I’m so excited to build for at Linktree!
