Unapologetically Asian

Thoroughly enjoyed this Unapologetically Asian podcast with Thanh Truong, whose passion for fruit is infectious. From discussing how beloved Asian foods like durian, century eggs and chicken feet are perceived by uninformed Westerners, to eloquently explaining how cut fruit is a love language in Asian households and a gift of health and wealth, it's a great listen. A stand out moment for me was Thanh recounting being the only Asian in the room when Coles was considering Lunar New Year promotions (spoiler: they ignore his advice and get it wrong!). A moment of reflection on not having the authority/voice at the time to effect meaningful change, but learning from the experience and becoming a better agent for influence now.

Having had the privilege of attending significant Asian community events in the past 3 weeks (Level: Asian Podcast LNY event, Soul of Chinatown LNY Comedy Club, Unapologetically Asian Under the Stars) , spearheading the recent Melbourne Asian Hustle Network, and successfully executing a Lunar New Year activation for a shopping centre client, the value and impact of these experiences are clearer to me than ever. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬; 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. From celebrating cultural heritage to bringing together Asian Australian business leaders, these experiences show the invaluable role events play in knitting together brands, businesses, and communities. They go beyond just networking, they embed brands (personal and business) into the community's consciousness and foster a sense of belonging and loyalty. Events are essential for not just sustaining but actively enhancing brand visibility, community engagement, and business development. Their value surpasses the immediate buzz of activity, contributing significantly to the long-term success and growth of organisations. Communities, brands and businesses should be embracing the transformative power of events. They are indispensable tools for shaping the trajectory of brands, businesses, and communities. I attended multiple community led events across the past two weeks. Although it is cliche to say, but you could feel the ✨magic✨ in the air. It is not just about finding your tribe (although that's a major part of it). It is finding unconditional support, encouragement, and celebration. It is the people who are cheering you on from the sidelines, who share their knowledge and experience and pay it forward, and who give back to the community.
