I’m proud to say that within the Albanese Government I’m the Minister for Industry and Science.
There are a number of reasons for this, one of the fundamental being: I’ve been honoured to represent that Federal seat of Chifley, which sits within Western Sydney, with its boundaries stretching from Mount Druitt to Blacktown.
As Minister for Industry and Science I’m motivated by a mission to re-invigorate faith in the power of Australian ideas and know-how to improve lives. We’ve got a lot of smart people across this country - we shouldn’t just celebrate their work, we should support it.
My interest in this has stretched across my time as a parliamentarian. I've always had a strong interest in all things tech and championing our nation's growing digital economy.
This is tied to a local focus to improving education and employment opportunities - for an electorate where over 30% of residents are under the age of 19.
Investing in human capital, connecting corporate, government and NGO players to help open up opportunities for people I proudly represent - and supporting ways to improve the way we live and work using new thinking applied across industries that operate in our area.
Finally, Chifley has been set within Darug lands. I always pay my respects to elders: past, present and emerging along with First Nations people from all lands that have made this place their home (Chifley hosts the largest First Nations urban based community in our nation).
