This week, we had an informative morning tea for Stroke Awareness Week, featuring guests Lena Milshtein, Corporate Partnerships Coordinator at the Stroke Foundation, Kayla Viney, Executive Officer of the National Hypertension Taskforce, and Shazia H., Board Director at a NDIS-registered disability services provider and Senior Talent Acquisition Advisor at RMIT University, who shared her inspiring journey as a stroke survivor. The event served as an important reminder of being aware about the risks and symptoms of stroke. High blood pressure is a leading cause of stroke, so getting your blood pressure checked is crucial. More than 80% of strokes can be prevented. Acting F.A.S.T (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call emergency services) is essential when stroke symptoms appear.
