Wyzwania geopolityczne, społeczne, gospodarcze, zdrowotne i klimatyczne napędzają potrzebę jasnego kierunku i spójności polityki z poczuciem ambicji. Jest to z pewnością prawdą w odniesieniu do life science w Europie i znajduje odzwierciedlenie w pozytywnym włączeniu strategii w tym zakresie do wytycznych politycznych prezydenta.   🔵 Pomimo większego wkładu w bilans handlowy UE niż jakikolwiek inny sektor, odpowiadając za około 20% wszystkich wydatków na badania w Europie[1] i zatrudniając około 900 000 osób w całym regionie, europejski sektor nauk przyrodniczych stoi w obliczu silnej konkurencji ze strony USA i Chin.   🔵 W ciągu ostatnich dwóch dekad jedna czwarta udziału Europy w globalnych inwestycjach w badania i rozwój została przeniesiona do innych regionów świata. Podobnie, nasz udział w globalnych badaniach klinicznych spadł z 25,6% do 19,3% w ciągu ostatniej dekady. 🔵 Musimy dostosować wezwanie przywódców UE do bardziej konkurencyjnej Europy do przeglądu unijnego prawodawstwa farmaceutycznego i zapewnić, że zwiększy ono, a nie osłabi konkurencyjność jednego z naszych najważniejszych sektorów. 🔵 Początek nowej kadencji to dobry moment na refleksję. W ubiegłym miesiącu EFPIA opublikowała Strategię Konkurencyjności dla Europejskich Nauk o Życiu, która zawierała szereg zaleceń mających na celu ożywienie sektora. 🔵 Strategia ta powinna pomóc Europie przekształcić pomysły w innowacje, wspierając konkurencyjne europejskie klastry biotechnologiczne i farmaceutyczne. Europejskie firmy biotechnologiczne mają dostęp tylko do około 20% środków finansowych, które mogą uzyskać ich amerykańskie odpowiedniki. 🔵 Wierzymy, że możemy zapewnić Europie miejsce światowego lidera w dziedzinie nauk przyrodniczych. Oznaczałoby to zapewnienie Europejskiej Agencji Leków wystarczających zasobów, aby zapewnić ambitne, przyszłościowe ramy regulacyjne i być wiodącym głosem w międzynarodowej konwergencji regulacyjnej.   🔵 Wyobraźmy sobie, że Europa zapobiegła kolejnej pandemii, znalazła sposób na spowolnienie choroby Alzheimera lub zmieniła życie pacjentów cierpiących na choroby przewlekłe. Taka jest wizja EFPIA dotycząca przyszłości europejskiego sektora life science. After spending the first half of the year developing the pharmaceutical industry's vision for a life science competitiveness strategy it was so encouraging to see it included in Ursula von der Leyen's political programme for the next European Commission. The upcoming months will be crucial to ensure the concrete proposals included in our strategy are picked up by the institutions.
