🚀 Together with an industry coalition of 23 international associations from multiple sectors, we call for a paradigm shift to reaffirm the #GDPR's risk-based approach as the guiding principle: https://bit.ly/4d5SPzS Enhancing dialogue between regulators, including data protection authorities, and the industry is essential to harmonize the interpretation of the existing regime. This balance is crucial for protecting data, supporting operational business needs and fostering innovation while ensuring legal compliance. The new EU mandate must ensure a sustainable data use model, which should balance the right to personal data protection with other fundamental rights and public policy objectives, in line with the GDPR's original spirit 👇

ETNO Association reposted this
#Connectivity will be front and centre in this upcoming mandate of the European Parliament and European Commission, as the EU seeks to relaunch its competitiveness. A true pleasure to join the #telecom crowd at the #Strasbourg plenary this week (and a shout-out to POLITICO Europe for a great EP Welcome Party!).

We welcome the agreement to keep affordable/free roaming & calls between 🇪🇺 & 🇺🇦. Over two years since the invasion, European operators continue to support refugees with #connectivity & humanitarian aid while Ukrainian operators strive to offer reduced #roaming despite challenges: https://bit.ly/3S4MMmt

Yesterday our Policy Manager Xhoana S. joined the "Sustainability in Telecommunications & Space" event, organised by #HU24EU. Her main points: ⚡️ Making networks more efficient is a top priority for telcos. This can be achieved by migrating to very high-capacity, more energy-efficient networks. Increasing the share of energy from renewable sources to 100% and extending use of intelligent power-saving features can help. 📊 Energy use is tied to data traffic growth: let’s incentivise more efficient data transmission. 🗒️ Including networks in the taxonomy will support the twin transition. ⛓️ Achieving net zero requires the commitment of the entire value chain. ♻️ Circularity initiatives should be supported: only 40% of e-waste is recycled.

An ETNO Association delegation (Steven Tas, Lise Fuhr, Dr. Jakob Greiner & Alessandro Gropelli) visited Washington to strengthen the Transatlantic Dialogue last week. It was a good opportunity to discuss US policy challenges & American views on EU policies, and to update our partners on recent developments in Brussels at a time in which global challenges require close collaboration with like-minded partners.
