The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) is the organisation representing medical specialists in Europe.
Über uns
The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) is the oldest medical organisation in Europe as it celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018. With a current membership from 40 countries, it is the representative organisation of the National Associations of Medical Specialists in the European Union and its associated countries. UEMS represents over 1.6 million medical specialists in all the different specialties. It also has strong links and relations with European Institutions (Commission and Parliament), the other independent European Medical Organisations and the European Medical / Scientific Societies. By its agreed documents, UEMS sets standards for high quality healthcare practice that are transmitted to the Authorities and Institutions of the EU and the National Medical Associations stimulating and encouraging them to implement its recommendations. Under the impulse of a growing shift from voluntary to mandatory CME-CPD in Europe, the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) set up the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) in October 1999. They accredit live events, e-materials, and journal editors. The UEMS-EACCME® sets itself as the central link between the National Accreditation Authorities (NAAs), the UEMS Specialist Sections and Boards (S&Bs), the European Specialty Accreditation Boards (ESABs) and the Providers of CME activities.

Very proud & happy to be part of KEEPCARING Project funded by the European Union under HORIZON #horizoneurope #keepcaring
Professor of Surgery (Amsterdam UMC-UvA) | Board Member ZonMw | Supervisory Board Member Meander MC | Founder Digital Health Research Institute | Keynote Speaker
𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 -our European Commission proposal on the Horizon call HORIZON-HLTH-2023-CARE-04 'Resilience and Mental Wellbeing of the Health and Care workforce project'- is funded today! So proud -and so very honored to announce that we are funded with a 6.4M Euro EU Horizon Grant -in the capacity of being the Project Coordinator for Amsterdam UMC -Consortium Leader. 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 aims to (re-)build wellbeing and resilience of the healthcare workforce in our EU hospitals in the surgical pathways, to promote onboarding as well as staying in the workplace by systematically researching factors and signals of job stress and novel mitigating solutions and by co-creating a multi-faceted non-digital, digital and AI-supported solution package to prevent burnout among (aspirant) healthcare professionals on the individual, team, and organizational level. Why? Stress, on an individual, team and organizational level; is the biggest factor attributing to burnout among hospital healthcare workers. The mere anticipation of such stress prevents onboarding of new staff so much needed. Within healthcare, stressors are caused by various factors related to a heavy workload, administrative burden, poor working conditions, decline in workforce and emotional weight of the job. But what is stress for one individual, is not stress for another on. And also, we do not know well how to measure ongoing stress in our working environments. Nor are we able to choose and tailor solutions to prevent stress in our workforce well, or do we know what ‘level of stress’ exists in our hospitals (and how to mitigate this successfully). A relevant and very pressing issue, as we are simply not going to get more healthcare workers in our hospitals to care for all of us.. So I am truly grateful to have received this grant, now let’s get to work to enable our healthcare workers, from the operation room to the hospital wards, to keep on working -healthily! 👉 Feel free to reach out to me directly for more information or via [email protected] Grant Beneficiaries and Associated Partners of KEEPCARING: University of Limerick Nuromedia GmbH Erasmus MC ECHAlliance - The Global Health Connector Chino.io University of Warwick Sjællands Universitetshospital Koncern Digitalisering, Region Sjælland Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences Italian National Research council, Italy, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche Universidade de Coimbra University of Tartu Healthy Mind Universidade Nova de Lisboa Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf Rigshospitalet european federation of nurses associations HOPE - European Hospital and Healthcare Federation European Union of Medical Specialists Grant Support by Kimberley Rentner Veronique Isabelle Dekker Isabelle Wartelle Dr. Sandra Z. European Union of Medical Specialists reposted this
✨ Exciting News from the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) Council Meeting we attended! ✨ Last week, our President Alvaro Cerame had the privilege of attending the UEMS Council Meeting alongside Valentina Pugelj, Chair of the Postgraduate Training (PGT) committee. It was a remarkable gathering where significant decisions were made, shaping the future of medical practice in Europe. 🏥 Emergency Medicine Takes a Leap Forward: One of the highlights of the meeting was the approval of the European Training Requirements (ETR) on Emergency Medicine. This milestone paves the way for standardized and high-quality training across Europe, ensuring that our future emergency physicians are equipped with the skills needed to save lives. 🌿 Commitment to Sustainability: We are thrilled that the UEMS adopted a policy paper on green sustainable practice and a climate change curriculum. As healthcare professionals, it's our responsibility to address environmental challenges and integrate sustainable practices into our daily operations. This initiative reflects our dedication to both patient care and environmental stewardship. This week in our own General Assembly in Montpellier France, EJD has a brand new policy about Climate Emergency in discussion. 🔍 Addressing Critical Issues: In response to recent publications on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery, the UEMS released a comprehensive response. This proactive approach underscores their commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards within the medical community. 🤝 Our Goals for UEMS Interaction: At the heart of our involvement with the UEMS is the desire to enhance collaboration and representation for junior doctors. We aim to ensure that the voices of junior doctors are heard and valued in the work of UEMS sections and thematic federations. By strengthening our partnership with the UEMS, we can collectively advance medical education, practice, and advocacy across Europe. We are incredibly proud of the strides made at the UEMS Council Meeting and look forward to continued engagement in shaping the future of European medicine. Stay tuned for more updates on our collaborative efforts with UEMS! #JuniorDoctors #UEMS #MedicalEducation #Collaboration #Healthcare #Sustainability
