At #COP29, countries will face intense pressure to fulfill the ambitious climate commitments made last year. The fashion industry, a major polluter, will be under heightened scrutiny to accelerate its decarbonization efforts. 👀 While progress has been made in reducing reliance on fossil fuels, more rapid action is expected. A key focus will be on cutting carbon emissions through renewable energy investments and setting strict timelines. Additionally, there will likely be a push for sustainable materials that can revolutionize the industry. The fashion industry needs to adopt tangible, scalable solutions to minimize its environmental impact, with clear, aligned targets. We are committed to staying informed about the latest regulations and developments in this rapidly changing landscape. By navigating these changes, we can ensure our practices align with the newest standards and expectations. Big news from Climate Central, Inc.! 👏 They’ve introduced the Climate Shift Index: Ocean (Ocean CSI), a pioneering tool that monitors daily shifts in sea surface temperatures and connects them to human-induced climate change. This tool reveals that climate change has made this summer’s Hurricane Beryl 400 times more likely. 🌊 Building on Climate Central’s efforts to track global weather changes, Ocean CSI provides crucial insights into our ocean’s health - a key component of our climate system. As sea temperatures rise, our oceans struggle to balance climate, support biodiversity, and mitigate storms. It's crucial we leverage this new data to drive action and safeguard our planet! The Phycolabs team is committed to supporting innovations like this that help us better understand and respond to climate change. Together, we can make a difference! 💪 Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/duu5DiDz. #oceandecade #seaweed #innovation #climatecentral #climatechange

Time to detox your wardrobe! 🚫 Your closet might be a bigger polluter than you realize. Tiny plastic particles are breaking off from your synthetic clothes and making their way into our bodies and the environment. Every year, these clothes could lead us to ingest thousands of microplastics. According to Our World in Data and Knowable Magazine, plastic pollution has become a global crisis. Since the invention of the first synthetic plastic, Bakelite, in 1907, plastic production has skyrocketed. Since the 1950s, plastic production has increased 230-fold - from just 2 million tonnes in 1950 to 460 million tonnes in 2019. In fact, production has doubled in just the last 20 years. Shockingly, 40% of all plastic is made for single-use packaging, and much of it ends up polluting our oceans. Marine scientist Imogen Napper’s research shows that washing synthetic fibers like polyester releases microplastics into the environment, significantly contributing to ocean pollution. In fact, synthetic fibers are responsible for up to 35% of all microplastic pollution in the ocean. 🌊 It’s time to make conscious choices. Raising awareness about this issue and encouraging others to join the movement towards a cleaner planet is essential. Share your thoughts and tips in the comments below! 👇 #SustainableFashion #MicroplasticPollution #PlasticFreeFuture #Ocean
