Unless you are a historian of all things Five Nights at Freddy’s you likely don’t know Chipper and Sons. This is the indie game developed by Scott Cawthon that inspired his decision to make Five Nights at Freddy’s BUT perhaps not for the reasons you might anticipate. Long story short, the game trailer was ripped by a critic who was beyond critical of the game and in so many words said that the game looked awful and the characters have “dead terrifying soulless eyes”. The brutal review might have dissuaded the game developer to keep trying, but in this instance the creator took that moment and used it as inspiration to make the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game which lit the fuse on a billion dollar plus game/film/merch franchise. This line of figures from Youtooz was not intended to sell more merchandise… rather, it was an opportunity to celebrate failure. To get back up after you have been knocked down. To remind artists, creators and risk takers of what is possible if you believe in yourself and your willingness to persevere.
