#Jasper residents: Our crews are here to support your return home. Whether it’s ensuring you have power, natural gas service, or if you need a friendly face to connect with at the Re-Entry Support Centre, we’ll be there.    Since July 31, our ATCO Electric team has restored 100% of undamaged residential properties in town, bringing power back to approximately 1,800 of the 2,077 affected customers.    Since August 14, our ATCO Gas team has restored gas availability to 98% of the town and as of August 22, 75% of customer relights have been completed. Recently, I, along with some of my ATCO Electric colleagues, had the opportunity to participate in the first training session in our brand-new Slip Simulator and Egress system. At ATCO, we take safety incredibly seriously. In fact, it’s one of our core values. Which is why the decision to acquire a tool such as this was an easy one. Slips, trips, and falls are some of the most common causes of workplace injuries and they don’t discriminate based on location or job title. Whether working in the field or office, hazards present themselves daily and we must be prepared to mitigate them. This tool will help us to achieve fewer incidents and reinforces our commitment to the safety of all our employees. Watch out for the Slip Simulator as it makes its way around Alberta visiting many of our field offices to conduct this important training.

On behalf of our people at ATCO, we are devastated by the aggressive fires that came through the town of Jasper last night. We care deeply about this community and everyone who has been impacted. Before evacuating yesterday at approximately 4:00 p.m., ATCO operators turned off the natural gas distribution service to the town and isolated the natural gas transmission line at a valve just south of the Athabasca River. Power remained on in the community to continue electric supply to support the firefighting efforts, but later that afternoon, power to the town was ultimately disrupted. Until we are able to safely re-enter the community to complete a full assessment, we won’t know the extent of the damage to our infrastructure. Our sincere appreciation goes to the courageous responders who remained overnight to continue fighting the fires and deepest condolences to those who have lost their homes and businesses.
