The end of August always brings with it that familiar back-to-school feeling... 📚 🎒 🚌   Sadly, for us at #AVLFCC, that means saying goodbye (for now!) to our talented co-op students, who have made their mark on our team over the last few months. Thank you to Jackie McDougall and Ekaansh Arora, who spent eight and 16 months respectively in our testing department and Dominic Starck and Valentina Solis, who both completed eight-month placements in our engineering department. We also bid a fond farewell to French exchange student Paul Alexandre, who spent three and a half months at #AVL. #DYK women make up 33% of AVLFCC's workforce? As an engineering company that develops custom fuel cell stack solutions for other engineering organizations, this representation is something we're really proud of. Today is International Women in Engineering Day (#INWED), which exists to promote the amazing work of women engineers around the world. Why? Because women engineers are still hugely under-represented. That includes here in Canada, where Engineers Canada estimates women represent only about 15% of all licensed engineers. We want to draw attention to this statistic, for sure. But for us, women in engineering goes beyond the P.Eng. designation. Our women-in-engineering colleagues, photographed below, are not all engineers. But every one of them makes the engineering we do here at #AVLFCC possible. So please take a moment today—every day would be better—to talk to young women and girls about the amazing women in engineering you know. Showcase their projects.
