Canadian Nuclear Society Société Nucléaire Canadienne The Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) promotes the exchange of information on all aspects of nuclear science and technology and its applications. This includes nuclear power generation, fuel production, uranium mining and refining, management of radioactive wastes and used fuel. Other topics include medical and industrial uses of radionuclides, occupational and environmental radiation protection, the science and technology of nuclear fusion, and associated activities in research and development. The CNS membership of approximately 1000 is comprised of individuals directly involved with nuclear technology in any of the above areas, or one simply interested in nuclear topics. Mission Support and promote nuclear Science, Engineering & Technology, and related fields, by: 1. Acting as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. 2. Advancing education, knowledge and understanding. 3. Enhancing and maintaining the professional and technical capabilities of those involved in the field, particularly in the Canadian context. Vision The CNS is the organisation of choice in Canada for the nuclear Science, Engineering & Technology community and its stakeholders seeking accurate information about nuclear related disciplines and issues. (Stakeholders include the general public, labour unions, government, educational institutions, the private sector, and media representatives.)

CNA/CNS Student Awards 2024 MSc Winner: Hailey (Xinran) Pan My name is Hailey; I am in my second year of a Master of Science program in Physical/Analytical Chemistry at Western University under the supervision of Dr. Jamie Noel. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, and for my Master's program, I am focusing on the study of Electrochemistry and Material Corrosion. My research is about the study of the proposed used fuel containers' integrity in deep geological repositories. Specifically, I'm investigating the corrosion of containers' cold spray copper coatings in environments containing oxides and bisulfides. I use electrochemical methods to evaluate corrosion behaviour and surface analysis techniques to characterize surface conditions and corrosion products. My research will help us obtain a better understanding of used fuel containers’ long-term performance in a deep geological repository. Congratulations Hailey! #cns #cna #studentawards
CNA/CNS Student Awards 2024 PhD Winner - Razieh Mohammadrezaei Larki My name is Razieh Mohammadrezaei Larki, and I am currently in the fourth year of my Ph.D. program under the supervision of Dr. Suraj Persaud in the corrosion group in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Queen’s University. Since completing my master’sdegree, at Shiraz University- Iran, my passion for understanding corrosion within industrial contexts has been unwavering. Working on a thesis under Dr. Persaud's supervision will create a great opportunity for me because of his cutting-edge research and laboratory equipment. I am using modern microscopy techniques to characterize micro-to-nanoscale chemical/material characterization for the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of Alloys 800, 600, and 690 which are used as a steam generator (SG) tubing in nuclear power plants. I am carrying out SCC tests using an autoclave for high temperatures (280 °C), high pressure in the lead-caustic environment and these environments are commonly used to simulate the extreme end of crevice environments on the secondary-side water of the steam generator tubing. My future goal is to improve my working experience and academic studies in corrosion science to be able to find a job opportunity as a scientist in a research environment.
