On October 7, 2008, 16 Catholic health care facilities across Alberta came together under a single board and administration. Today, Covenant Health has a team of more than 14,000 staff, physicians and volunteers across our sites in Banff, Bonnyville, Camrose, Castor, Edmonton, Killam, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Mundare, St. Albert, Trochu and Vegreville. Rooted in a tradition that is 150-years strong, our mission is carried out by inspired people—workers, physicians and volunteers—of all faiths, traditions and cultures who believe in the value of compassionate, holistic care. We are called to continue the healing ministry of Jesus by serving with compassion, upholding the sacredness of life in all stages, and caring for the whole person—body, mind and soul.

To care better, we must understand better. Karilynn (Kari) Rajotte, a clinical nurse educator at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, is helping staff understand and empathize with patients who have dementia. Kari led a series of innovative dementia simulation training sessions for the medicine program at the hospital as part of its annual staff education initiatives. The training immerses participants in a world that mimics the sensory and cognitive challenges of the illness to simulate what an individual might experience when receiving care as a patient. It covers concepts like de-escalation and redirection, featuring an actor to assist participants with the simulated activities. Read more: https://bit.ly/3wXuVX5

Honoured to attend the opening of a beautiful, donor-funded patio and gazebo build at Foyer Lacombe in St. Albert. This new space will provide long-term residents and hospice patients and their families a serene sanctuary and a path to walk in reflection (excited to share more photos as soon as they’re available). We were treated to an impromptu site tour and got to witness first hand how the compassionate and dedicated staff truly make this place so special. Grateful for the opportunity to support and experience this inspiring facility. 🫶 Kara Mothersell Covenant Foundation Covenant Health Canada Covenant Care Canada

🚨 Ready, set, save lives! In preparation for a massive hemorrhage protocol (MHP) simulation, staff at the Misericordia hospital participated in an Amazing Race-inspired educational event called A-MHP-zing Race. This gamification approach enabled staff to practice as part of a combined learning experience, incorporating both theoretical knowledge and hands-on application. The exercise gave staff the tools necessary to be successful for the upcoming MHP simulation day. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3ztj2JJ
