  • 🌟 A Proud Moment 🌟  📢 We're thrilled to announce that our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has been cited in a leading industry publication! But first, what is LCA?    🌍 In today’s world, companies are experiencing pressures to collect and report data on their product’s environmental impact. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the most credible tools for evaluating the impact of a product. An LCA examines every stage of a product’s life, from raw materials and manufacturing to use and disposal. The LCA plays a crucial role in preventing greenwashing. The LCA improves transparency and can be used for:    - Regulatory compliance,  - Supply chain management and   - Product marketing. 🌿A US-based manufacturer asked YellowYellow to measure the overall emissions of its product. We conducted an LCA to evaluate the water, electricity and waste involved.  When we compared their product to traditional ones, we determined it was a greener alternative, with 50% fewer emissions! A big thanks to AMI for featuring the results in their latest publication. 💡 To build on the LCA findings and position the manufacturer as a market leader, we went above and beyond. We proudly partnered with the client to deliver two innovative pieces. First, we created an app to make it easy for all stakeholders to understand the emissions savings of the new product vs the traditional product. Next, we created a stunning brochure for distribution at trade shows.      Curious to learn more?   👇 Check out the links in the comment below to Compounding World and the client’s success story on our YellowYellow blog.  Special thanks to Simon Coyle and Terra Larivere for their support. Image credit: AMI Compounding World Magazine - June 2024 issue So what?  Embracing an LCA is no longer a choice, it’s a necessity. Investors and customers are willing to pay more for environmentally responsible products. Let us help you to demonstrate your commitment and differentiate your product from your peers. #Transparency #Innovation #YellowYellow #LCA #Leadership

Another conference in the books! Thank you to the organizers of Goldschmidt 2024 for putting together a great conference, and thank you to my supervisors Drs. Sasha Wilson and Benoit Rivard for their guidance throughout my research. It was an honour to present my work on the 'Valourization of Mine Residues for Enhanced Rock Weathering', and I am so glad to have received such positive and thought-provoking feedback from my peers in both academia and industry. It was great to meet new people and re-connect with those I haven't seen since Goldschmidt 2023. Hopefully we can connect again next year at Goldschmidt 2025!

Sustainability Leader | Keynote Speaker 2024 Women of Influence Nominee

Happy Friday! You could feel the exuberance in the room as industry leaders, researchers, startups and students came together at the Climate Positive Energy (CPE) Research Day University of Toronto. It was truly inspiring to meet the people driving groundbreaking innovations and partnerships to tackle the great climate challenge! 3 Key takeaways from Climate Positive Energy (CPE) 🏢 (1) The #digital revolution turned private homes into hotels (Airbnb) and personal cars into taxis (Uber). Did you know the #energy sector is on the brink of a similar disruption, driven by shared, decentralized solutions? Buildings account for 40% of global emissions, making their decarbonization crucial. Siemens Canada President & CEO, Faisal Kazi , ICD.D, highlighted how their #AI-powered Building X platform cuts emissions and improves workplace safety. In Atlantic Canada, they piloted an energy model that lets homes use stored #solar during #peak demand, with the potential to sell energy back to the grid.  🚛 (2) Education is key to electric vehicle (#EV) adoption. Transportation accounts for 22% of national emissions.  Plug'n Drive’s President & CEO Cara Clairman shared that cost, range anxiety and charging infrastructure are pain points. Solid-state batteries, which promise faster charging and greater safety, could be a game-changer! And what if we shift away from #lithium to #aluminum, Earth’s third most abundant element for battery production?   ⚡ (3) #Grid modernization is crucial for a decarbonized future. Electricity demand is surging with the growing population. Unfortunately, the #distribution side of electricity goes overlooked. Investing in advanced #data analytics and updating #regulatory frameworks are key to driving innovation. Hats off to CPE’s Executive Director Shatha Qaqish-Clavering, CPE Academic Director & Professor David Sinton and all involved on putting together a successful conference! What a great reason to bring Harneet Panesar (Ontario Energy Board), Scott McMeekin, Amélie Desroches, Susan Chen, M.B.A. and hundreds of others together, including two members of the YellowYellow Sustainability Advisors team!   We're looking forward to applying these insights to deepen the #value we bring to our clients' #sustainability #strategies. Don't get left behind. Let's get started. Send a DM.     #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #Innovation #Leadership #YellowYellow

  • The enthusiasm for Paris 2024 being labeled as the “greenest Olympics yet” prompted us to ask: Was it sustainable or just greenwashing🤔?   We did some fact-checking on Paris 2024 and there’s no denying that some initiatives set an ‘Olympic record’!  Here are five actionable insights from our blog that business leaders can adopt and action today: 1. Establish your organization’s carbon budget: Planning is key to driving efficient resource use and effectively controlling emissions.    Paris 2024 set a ground-breaking carbon budget, aiming to cap emissions at 1.58 million tonnes of CO2e, at least 50% less than Rio 2016 (3.6 million tonnes) and London 2012 (3.4 million tonnes)!    2. Embrace a Circular Economy: Reduce waste by rethinking resource and material use—rent, reuse, and repurpose materials, fittings, and materials wherever possible.    Paris 2024 embraced circular economy principles by reusing and repurposing materials, with 95% of venues being pre-existing or temporary. One example is the new low-carbon Aquatics Centre, designed for post-games community use. Around 75% of the 2 million pieces of sports and electronic equipment were rented or sourced from sports federations.    3. Prioritize sustainable transport: Cut travel emissions with virtual meetings and invest in low-emission vehicle fleets.    With 80% of Olympic venues within 10 km of the Olympic Village, travel emissions were minimized. Toyota’s fleet of 2,600 electrified vehicles, including electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-powered models, cut transportation emissions by 50% compared to previous Games.     4. Encourage vegetarian menu options and locally sourced food and reduce food packaging waste:     Paris 2024 served 13 million meals with half the carbon footprint of a typical French meal by doubling plant-based ingredients and sourcing 80% of food locally, including 25% within 250 km. The Games also pioneered reusable food packaging with a deposit return system.    5. Transition to renewable energy: Prioritize securing clean energy sources to sustainably power your business operations.    Paris 2024 ran on 100% renewable energy, supported by France’s low-carbon grid and solar PV arrays. UK-based EDF provided green power backed by blockchain-backed certificates. Even the Olympic torch was fueled by bio-propane, derived from renewable sources.    Bravo to all involved in Paris 2024! Check out our blog post for a deep dive into how these successes can be applied to your business. • ✈️ Business travel keeps you connected to clients and colleagues, but how is it affecting your company's carbon footprint? Did you know that #airtravel has the highest emissions intensity of any travel mode?      🌍Global aviation generated 600 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2022 with business travel accounting for up to 20%.*    ✨We're excited to help you understand the impact of your travel on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with our new Business Travel Emissions Calculator. Designed for business leaders, this tool helps you to estimate the emissions associated with a handful of North American travel routes.
