“Basak is a great manager, able to hold a number of parallel projects running well, still being aware of the technical team needs, keeping everything in good progress. She was able to push an internal revamp and workflow update that increased the team capacity. The bilingual and high-demanding environment offered a challenged that she mastered at, working with both local and overseas professionals. French and English customers were offered the same level of service, and the equally multilingual team was no challenge to her. Complex, special or demanding projects are a good fit for her. ”

My friends know me as a creative, kind, and resourceful person, and that doesn’t change when I step into a work environment. No matter the setting, I place human connection at the forefront of my decision-making. This commitment to a people-first approach has led me to choose employers that are mission driven and concerned with the social impact of their innovations.
Through my work as chief operating officer at Pressbooks, I have applied my convictions to fostering a workplace culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. I use a mix of empathy and data to analyse processes and interactions at every level of the company, and provide solutions that are replicable, creative, and appropriate for the situation and the people involved.
When I first arrived in Quebec, I didn’t speak French, my business degree from a Turkish university was not recognized, and with no “Canadian” experience, I couldn’t get a job. This experience forced me to think outside of the box and to find ways to make my mark on communities I am new to.
I am interested in how technology can change the world without sacrificing the humanity of its developers and users. Striking a balance between efficiency and emotional intelligence, my leadership style reflects the type of innovation I want for the world. When I come to work everyday, I arrive with the strength and resourcefulness I learned through my immigration journey, the enthusiasm and positivity I gather from my passion for change, and the compassion that is core to my identity.

Social Services
I am slowly building this organization. The premise of The Supper Society is to gather a small but connected group of well-established locals to host monthly meals – suppers – with newcomers (specifically, immigrants and refugees) so that these folks can make some connections in the community, enjoy a nice meal and get any help they need as they embark on their Canadian Journey. The end goal for everyone involved is to expand their network and hopefully make some new lifelong friends.
