Management consultant and subject matter expert in the areas of managing reliability and maintenance in an industrial environment. He has a unique blend of engineering, operational and maintenance management. His clients benefit from significant savings in maintenance and operational costs (upward of $98 million annually), coupled with gains in physical asset performance translating into increased revenue generation (in some cases upwards of $1 billion annually).

James' experience includes: military (naval) service as a ship's engineer, maintenance and reliability engineering in petrochemicals, development of maintenance and support programs for a fleet of warships, helicopters and ground based avionics systems, and then consulting. His consulting career began in the big firms, leading to founding of his own specialty firm, filling a need that the big firms simply do not provide.

He works in mining, oil and gas, electric and gas utilities, forest products, defense, pharmaceutical, public transit, water and waste water, and logistics.

In places like the UK, they are the natural successor to existing specifications (PAS 55-1 and 55-2) but elsewhere the new ISO standards introduce a management system concept that is entirely new. What's more, it becomes evident as one digs into them that traditional management approaches with functional silos based on areas of expertise, will need to adapt so that performance, risk and costs are managed together instead of separately. This book summarizes the new standards in plain language, shows how they deal with risk management and describes the business case for using the standards.
