Established in 2021 by myself and Shawn Forster, Capital City Ringette is committed to providing an elite developmental platform for young female athletes. Our high-performance program focuses on nurturing talent and enabling athletes to compete at a superior level. Annually, we select the most skilled and promising athletes from our region to partake in elevated training and participate in major off-season tournaments, competing against teams from some of Canada's largest cities.

Our program has a track record of success, with numerous athletes advancing to Ringette New Brunswick's High Performance program. Additionally, a significant number have gone on to play AAA high school hockey and local Tier 1 ringette. Many others have excelled in elite levels within Hockey New Brunswick provincially or the EDZA program at both the AA and AAA levels.

At Capital City Ringette, I oversee program coordination, manage fundraising and sponsorship efforts, and lead graphic design and promotional activities. I am also responsible for jersey design and serve as the goaltending coach, contributing to the all-around development and success of our athletes.

  • Logo Design: Ed Benoit Early Bird Tournament

Every year the Fredericton Youth Ringette Association hosts their Early Bird Tournament in November. Last summer, Ed Benoit, a former Board member, coach, and referee passed away. The current Board voted to rename the tournament in Ed's memory.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with them to rebrand the tournament. The new logo and name was unveiled at the 2022-2023 year-end banquet with Ed's family in attendance. Ed designed the original tournament logo and we wanted to pay homage to that by keeping the star and player from the original.

In the logo you'll find the overall shape of a rink, the addition of the location, the association's brand colours, and Ed's name prominently displayed. Subtly, you'll also find that the ring on the player's stick doubles and not only the dot on the letter i but also as a halo.

It was a privilege to work on this with the team and I can't wait to see it on championship banners, shirts, medals, and signage going forward.

The blue rings reflect the blue ring used to play the sport. The large ship in the middle is the same that appears across the provincial team jerseys. And lastly, since the tournament is being held in a primarily French town, the gold stars are a small nod to the region's Acadian heritage.

I'm excited that this is now out in the wild!
