In Cedar Rapids, volunteers filled Hallagan Education Center atMercy Medical Center to fill bags and boxes with food.

Mount Mercy University, Mercy Hospital, and the Catherine McAuley Center partnered with Take Away Hunger in its food relief mission. The volunteers packed and loaded 16,000 meal kits Friday.

Cara Reilly, Mount Mercy University's coordinator of volunteerism and service, says it's not just about the feeling of service, but of serving with other people.

"I started this position three years ago, which was right before COVID," Reilly says. "This is the first time we've been all together since then and so seeing everyone around and actually being in person with all these fellow institutions just warms my heart."
