The Mount Mercy University community is mourning a student who passed away due to complications from COVID-19 on Monday.

President Todd Olson issued a statement Tuesday extending the campus's deepest sympathies after the death of Ashley Hudson.

Olson said Hudson was an aspiring kindergarten teacher with dreams of becoming a Mount Mercy graduate.

A vigil in Hudson's honor was held Tuesday evening.

Olson said free grief counseling services are available for students, faculty, and staff.
