  • Orioles' Albert Suarez: Takes defeat Thursday

Suarez (5-3) took the loss against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

Suarez allowed just one run through four frames before letting three runners cross the plate in the fifth. That was more than enough to send him to his third loss, as Baltimore's offense was unable to muster any runs against Justin Steele and a pair of Cubs relievers. Suarez had won two straight starts coming into Thursday, and he still has a nice 2.82 ERA across 70.1 frames this season, so his spot in what has been an injury-plagued rotation is seemingly secure.

  • Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Sitting against lefty

O'Hearn isn't in the Orioles' lineup Thursday versus the Cubs.

Left-hander Justin Steele will toe the slab for Chicago on Thursday, forcing the left-handed bat of O'Hearn to stay put in Baltimore's dugout. His absence will move Adley Rustchman in to the DH spot while James McCann starts behind the plate.

  • Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: Idle against southpaw

Kjerstad isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cubs.

With southpaw Justin Steele slated to take the mound for Chicago, the Orioles will keep the lefty-hitting Kjerstad on the bench to begin Thursday's contest. Austin Hays will enter the lineup as Baltimore's left fielder while Kjerstad rests.

  • Orioles' Ramon Urias: Sitting Thursday

Urias isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Urias will take a seat for the second game in a row after making three consecutive starts at third base. Jordan Westburg will shift to the hot corner as a result, opening up second base for Jorge Mateo.

  • Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Orioles transferred Bradish (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in mid-June, so it was only a matter of time before he was moved to the 60-day IL to free up space on the 40-man roster. Bradish isn't guaranteed to take the mound for the Orioles in 2025 given his initial recovery timeline of 12-to-18 months.

  • Orioles' Colin Selby: Sent to Baltimore

The Royals traded Selby to the Orioles on Thursday in exchange for cash, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Selby will remain in Triple-A upon joining his new organization, though he will once again hold a spot on a 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty was DFA'd by Kansas City on Saturday after putting up a 6.23 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 21.2 innings with Triple-A Omaha, and he'll fill in as organizational depth for the O's. Kyle Bradish (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL in order to clear space on Baltimore's 40-man roster.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Racks up three hits in loss

Mountcastle went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Cubs.

Mountcastle has gone 6-for-24 (.250) over six games in July, a continuation of his performance from June, when he batted .248 across 28 contests. It's a bit of a slump for the first baseman, but not one that has cost him playing time, though he has dropped in the order versus right-handers. He's slashing .272/.314/.454 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 44 runs scored, 21 doubles and two stolen bases across 84 games this season.

  • Orioles' Dillon Tate: Moving to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Tate to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

  • Orioles' Burch Smith: Joining Baltimore bullpen

The Orioles selected Smith's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

He'll join the Baltimore bullpen as a replacement for right-hander Dillon Tate, who was optioned to Norfolk in a corresponding move. Though he opened the season as a member of the Miami bullpen, Smith was cut in June after he posted a 4.25 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 29.2 innings. He quickly caught on with the Orioles on a minor-league deal and turned in a pair of scoreless appearances with Norfolk before getting the call back to the majors.

  • Orioles' Corbin Burnes: Falls to Cubs

Burnes (9-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out five.

It's just the second loss for Burnes in his last 11 outings -- still, the right-hander was able to make it through at least six innings for a 14th straight start despite allowing nine hits, matching a season high. Overall, Burnes has lived up to expectations in his first year in Baltimore. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 2.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 110:25 K:BB across 118.2 innings.

Triple-A Norfolk reinstated Hunt (groin) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

  • Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Resting against southpaw

O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

After starting against right-handed pitchers in each of the past three games, O'Hearn will head to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Shota Imanaga takes the hill for the Cubs. With O'Hearn receiving the day off, Adley Rutschman will cede catching duties to James McCann and occupy O'Hearn's usual spot in the lineup at designated hitter.

  • Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: On bench Wednesday

Kjerstad is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Kjerstad had started both of the past two days while the Orioles faced left-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with southpaw Shota Imanaga on the hill for the Cubs. Austin Hays will spell Kjerstad in left field.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Idle against lefty

Mullins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Lefty Shota Imanaga is on the hill for the Cubs, so Mullins and fellow left-handed hitter Heston Kjerstad will duck out of the Baltimore lineup. Austin Hays and Colton Cowser will pick up starts in left and center field, respectively.
