  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Lifts fourth homer

Horwitz went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Thursday's 5-3 win over San Francisco.

Horwitz tagged Jordan Hicks for a solo homer in the fifth inning as part of the second baseman's third multi-hit game in his last five starts. Horwitz has been swinging a hot bat in July, going 12-for-36 (.333) with two homers and four RBI.

  • Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Snaps out of slump

Jansen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's 5-3 win over the Giants.

Jansen entered Thursday's contest 9-for-74 (.122) over his last 25 games but broke the dry spell with a pair of hits, including a solo homer off Jordan Hicks. The long ball was his first in 34 games after lifting five home runs in 22 games to open the season. Overall, the catcher owns a .715 OPS in 207 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Lands seventh victory

Gausman (7-8) picked up the win Thursday against San Francisco, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks across seven innings. He struck out three.

Both runs charged to Gausman came in the first inning when Heliot Ramos launched a two-run home run. Outside of the long ball, Gausman was able to induce enough soft contact to make it through seven innings while generating only seven whiffs. The 33-year-old entered Thursday's start with losses in four of his previous five appearances, and had allowed four or more runs three times during that stretch. However, he's logged a quality start in back-to-back outings and owns a 4.50 ERA across 104.0 innings heading into the All-Star break.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Yields homer in save

Green picked up the save Thursday against San Francisco, striking out one and allowing a solo home run in the ninth inning.

Green retired Michael Conforto and Matt Chapman to start the bottom of the ninth inning, but was taken yard by Mike Yastrzemski before closing out the frame and earning his fifth save of the season. Green's allowed five runs in 24.0 innings this season, each of which have come via solo homer. The 33-year-old is expected to hand over closing duties to Yimi Garcia (elbow) when Garcia is activated off the IL but in the meantime, Green should continue to see ninth-inning work for Toronto.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Kiermaier: Put on waivers

The Blue Jays placed Kiermaier, who is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, on waivers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

The 34-year-old re-signed with Toronto on a one-year, $10.5 million contract during the offseason, but he's struggled at the plate in 2024 with a .183/.232/.290 slash line in 70 games. Given Kiermaiers' poor production and remaining salary, it's unlikely another team will be willing to put in a waiver claim, so he could stick with the Blue Jays until the clubs elects to outright him off the roster.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Dealing with calf strain

Bichette, who is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, was diagnosed with a fascia strain in his right calf, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury during Wednesday's contest and is currently considered day-to-day. Bichette dealt with a strain in the same calf last month that resulted in a short stay on the injured list, though it's unclear if an IL move will be necessary this time around. The Blue Jays could add a player to the taxi squad in order to provide some potential depth at shortstop for the immediate future.

  • Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Not in lineup

Varsho (knee) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.

Varsho will need at least one day off to recover from a left knee contusion, which he sustained in the third inning of Wednesday's 10-6 win on an awkward slide into first base. His absence from the starting nine will allow Davis Schneider to pick up a start in left field.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Sitting out Thursday

Bichette (calf) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.

Bichette made an early exit from Wednesday's 10-6 win after experiencing soreness in his right calf while he was playing the field during a pickoff attempt. Though the Blue Jays appear to be viewing Bichette as day-to-day for now, he spent time on the injured list in June with a strain of the same calf. Leo Jimenez will fill in for Bichette at shortstop Thursday.

  • Blue Jays' Adam Macko: Shelved with forearm injury

Double-A New Hampshire placed Macko on its 7-day injured list Saturday with left forearm soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The injury cropped up during Macko's most recent start July 2 before New Hampshire opted to deactivate him a few days later. The 23-year-old lefty is rehabbing the injury, but if he's unable to make much progress in his recovery in the weeks to come, surgery could become a more distinct possibility. Macko had produced a 4.42 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 86:26 K:BB in 77.1 innings with New Hampshire before being shut down.

  • Blue Jays' Kendry Rojas: Returns to action at High-A

High-A Vancouver reinstated Rojas from its 7-day injured list Tuesday after he had been on the shelf since April 23 with a shoulder injury, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The Blue Jays didn't immediately disclose what type of injury the lefty he was dealing with when he was deactivated in late April, but it was a shoulder issue that kept him out of commission for nearly two months. Rojas made his third appearance of the season for Vancouver on Tuesday and looked sharp, striking out six over 3.2 scoreless innings while scattering four hits and three walks.

  • Blue Jays' Landen Maroudis: Gets internal brace procedure

The surgery Maroudis underwent in late May was an internal brace procedure to repair the UCL in his right elbow, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

While the procedure ended Maroudis' 2024 season prematurely, the fact that he avoided Tommy John surgery should at least improve his odds of being ready to pitch early in the 2025 campaign. In the short period of time that the internal brace procedure has been performed by doctors, pitchers have returned to game action in as few as nine months, though the Blue Jays will likely exercise more caution with the 19-year-old Maroudis before clearing him for his 2025 debut. Maroudis had turned in an 0.84 ERA and 0.69 WHIP while striking out 12 batters in 10.2 innings with Single-A Dunedin before he was shut down in April with the elbow injury.

  • Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Another homer, four RBI in win

Clement went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Giants.

Clement smacked a three-run shot off Logan Webb in the fifth to put Toronto on top 3-2 and then added an RBI single his next at-bat to extend the lead. The 28-year-old finished the night with three hits for only the second time on the campaign, and he's now homered in back-to-back games. Clement has also hit safely in three straight, going 5-for-13 (.384) over that stretch with seven RBI and three runs scored.

  • Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Grabs eighth win

Bassitt (8-7) earned the win over the Giants on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Two of the three runs charged to Bassitt came across in the opening frame after he surrendered a leadoff single to LaMonte Wade and allowed him to advance to second on a passed ball. The right-hander then gave up back-to-back RBI singles with two outs, though he wouldn't permit another run until the fifth. He induced 10 whiffs in the contest but also walked four batters for the second consecutive start. Bassitt has now gone at least five innings in 13 straight outings and has won two of his last three.

  • Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Exits with calf soreness

Bichette was removed from Wednesday's game versus San Francisco due to right calf soreness.

The severity of Bichette's injury remains unclear, but it was apparently bothering him enough to warrant his removal from Wednesday's contest in the fourth inning. Leo Jimenez entered as Bichette's replacement at shortstop and would likely be the next man up to start should the 26-year-old's calf cause him to miss any amount of time.

  • Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Exits with bruised knee

Varsho was removed from Wednesday's game against the Giants due to a left knee contusion.

Varsho made an awkward dive/slide into first base while trying to avoid being tagged out in the second inning. He was able to take the field for the bottom half of the frame but was eventually replaced in left field by Davis Schneider during the third. Varsho's injury shouldn't cause him to miss an extended period of time, though it's possible the Jays give him a day off Thursday to recover.

  • Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Exits Triple-A start early

Tiedemann was removed from his start Wednesday at Triple-A Buffalo due to left forearm tightness, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

In his first start back from the 7-day injured list, Tiedemann was only able to get through one inning (27 pitches) before his forearm began bothering him. Ulnar nerve inflammation in his left elbow has limited the 21-year-old southpaw to just 17.1 innings across all minor-league levels this season, and he'll now presumably head in for imaging to determine whether he needs to miss even more time.

  • Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: MiLB outing pushed back again

Garcia (elbow) didn't make a rehab appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Buffalo as planned due to neck stiffness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia's rehab appearance has now been pushed back twice due to the neck issue that popped up Tuesday. He threw a side session instead to make up for not getting into a game and is now slated to pitch for Buffalo on Thursday, barring any further setbacks.
