Project of the month: SESAR members demonstrate solution for seamless air traffic management across Europe
SESAR members have conducted an initial demonstration of flight object interoperability (FO IOP), a solution which aims to enable control centres across Europe to share complete information about air operations in real time, significantly increasing the efficiency of tr traffic management system through the continent. Further tests are planned in 2019 and 2020 on the solution, which is expected to be deployed by 2025.
SESAR takes steps towards improved civil-military coordination
Through SESAR, civil and military aviation stakeholders are working together on solutions to enable military air traffic operations in Europe’s increasing complex and congested airspace. Tests took place earlier this year in Bretigny and Prague simulating military aircraft operations in Prague controlled airspace. They showed how a central management of military flight plans and real-time exchange trajectory information can improve the predictability of military operations and airspace use; and increase capacity of the overall network.
Airspace Architecture Study - Top 5 questions
What is the rationale for the Airspace Architecture Study? What is the scope of the study and how does it relate to the European ATM Master Plan? Who is contributing to the study and when will it be delivered? Get answers to these questions ahead of the first consultation workshop in Brussels on 5-6 July.
SESAR research and innovation presented at European Parliament
The SESAR Joint Undertaking (SESAR JU) presented its research and innovation (R&I) on air traffic management (ATM), including drones, at a special public hearing on digitalisation of transport modes at the European Parliament on 20 June. SESAR was also the topic for discussion at a dedicated Parliament workshop on the same day, which highlighted the results delivered so far and the value of R&I investments for ATM.
Save the date: SESAR Solutions Workshop, 1-2 October 2018, Frankfurt
The 2018 edition of the SESAR Solution Workshop will showcase SESAR activities on a series of solutions that are of benefit to airspace users. The overarching theme of the event will be ‘digital solutions and tools for enhanced collaboration with airspace users’.
This is Salzburg calling...
Propose a paper, poster or demonstration for this year's flagship aviation research event. The SIDs 2018 will be hosted by the University of Salzburg, Austria, during the week of 3-7 December. The main conference will take place from 4-6 December and will showcase results from European exploratory research. The SIDs are based on an open call soliciting contributions from ATM research. An exhibition, keynote conference and networking events will provide further opportunities to learn about other interesting projects and meet like-minded researchers.
Still time to apply for the Young Scientist Award !
Are you a young scientist undertaking research in the field of air traffic management (ATM) and aviation? Are you looking for the perfect opportunity to showcase your talent? If yes, then look no further… the SESAR Young Scientist Award is designed for people like you. The SESAR Young Scientist Award 2018 aims to recognise young scientists with high potential contributing to the scientific research in the field of air traffic management and aviation.
