Today, we spotlight the incredible Hilary Price, the mastermind behind the beloved comic strip Rhymes with Orange. A cartoonist, storyteller, and speaker extraordinaire, Hilary’s work has tickled funny bones internationally, earning her accolades and adoration from fans and peers alike.
Hilary’s journey into the world of cartooning is a testament to her innovative spirit. Graduating from Stanford University, she made history at just 25 years old as the youngest-ever female syndicated newspaper cartoonist. Her comic strip, Rhymes with Orange, has brought fresh perspectives to the comics page, resonating with readers across the globe. This spirit of innovation has earned her the prestigious Best Newspaper Panel Cartoon award from the National Cartoonists Society four times!
Hilary’s talent doesn’t stop at her drawing table. She’s a celebrated figure in the cartooning community, with shiny trophies like the Inkpot Award for Career Achievement from San Diego Comic-Con International and the Elzie Segar Award from the National Cartoonists Society, honoring her unique and outstanding contributions to the profession. Thanks to these accolades, her dusting technique is first-rate!
Her works have been proudly displayed in The San Francisco Museum of Cartoon Art, The Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum at Ohio State University, and even the Library of Congress. Beyond cartooning, Hilary has shared her storytelling prowess with The Moth and NPR, and she teaches workshops on single-panel cartooning at The Center for Cartoon Studies.
Hilary collaborates with Canadian cartoonist Rina Piccolo on Rhymes with Orange, bringing even more wit and charm to the strip. When she’s not creating comic gold, Hilary enjoys walking her overly large dog, playing ice hockey, and spending time with her partner Kristin in western Massachusetts.
