QI

We have a bot which handles the gruntwork - it removes images which are not commented on within X days, not those which merely were posted X days ago. Please leave it to do its job. -mattbuck (Talk) 10:45, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tell me if I'm wrong but afaik there is no bot closing the consensual reviews. And the bot is stopped often so the queue gets bigger and bigger. What really counts are the guidelines, no matter if a human or a bot does the work. --Ikiwaner (talk) 10:57, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that humans have to decide on CR by changing it from discuss to promotion or decline, and at that point it will be sorted. It runs at roughly noon GMT every day, and finishes its job within 20mins or so. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:01, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I closed most of the CRs this morning, so the bot should handle them in an hour or so. --Quartl (talk) 11:03, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I was wrong on the closure procedure but still your revert does not make sense. --Ikiwaner (talk) 16:43, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You removed several discussions which had yet to be idle for the week or so - heck, one had a timestamp (confusingly) from tomorrow. -mattbuck (Talk) 17:04, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Besides the images that got automatically archived a few hours after you reverted me there are just three other images left that I closed unassessed, the oldest of them being nominated half a month ago. The guidelines say: Nominated images which have not generated assessments either to promote nor to decline, or a consensus (equal opposition as support in consensual review) after 8 days on this page should be removed from this page without promotion. I hope it's not your understanding that this is 8 days after the last comment. It's 8 days from nomination. Otherwise an image can stay forever on the list. --Ikiwaner (talk) 17:23, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Werbung

Was soll daran falsch sein? --Ikiwaner (talk) 15:12, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. There is no Werbung nor COI here, so I reverted the revert. Regards. Lycaon (talk) 16:42, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Viele Grüße, --Quartl (talk) 20:25, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lens

Hi, I was just wondering what lens you used for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro trips. --Muhammad (talk) 16:23, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muhammad, I bought a EF-S 55-200 before I first came to Africa. Unfortunately it suddenly stopped working shortly after landing in Namimbia last year. I had to shoot all my wildlife pictures with a standard zoom! So I thought I need a reliable and desert-proof lens for Tanzania and I got the EF 100-400 F 4.5-5.6L IS USM. BTW: The lens information is stored in the image metadata. Congratulations to your picture of the zebras in Ngorongoro. I was unlucky with zebras on my trip but had luck with other animals. --Ikiwaner (talk) 16:33, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I could only see the 400mm in the metadata so was not sure. Anyway, the pictures are amazing. It seems my luck was with zebras and wildebeests only :-) Hope to see some north TZ pics soon --Muhammad (talk) 23:30, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bien cordialement à toi depuis Paris, --Jebulon (talk) 15:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On verra bien.
essayons.
Salut, sous l'orage parisien ce soir. --Jebulon (talk) 17:18, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Kein Problem in diesem Bild)

LG, --Ikiwaner (talk) 11:24, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hallo Ikiwaner, I am in the process of publishing a book on the history of Ornithology on a “print on demand” basis. I found your amazing photo of the Blue Wildebeest and would like to include it in my book. I wondered if you would allow me to do so free of charge. I will include a clear attribution to you in the book, and gladly let you have a complimentary copy of the book. Thank you. Tian Hattingh.

Guten Tag

Tanne

Sehr geehrter Herr Ikiwaner!

--Leyo 15:05, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I use some of your photos

Hi Ikiwaner!

I have use some photos of Pan troglodytes from wikimedia in my free software educational proyect "Animalandia" (http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia)

You can see directy in the follow links and click over "Siguiente" ("Next") several times:

http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia/imagen.php?id=33296

If you wish, you can send me some letters or/and a photo for your "contributor card" in Animalandia:

http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia/autor.php?nombre=Ikiwaner

This is my "contributor card", for example:

http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia/autor.php?nombre=Fernando%20Lis%F3n%20Mart%EDn

In the future, I use more of your photos, I sure!

Thank you for the licence and, of course, for your splendid photos!! Regards! Fernando Lisón --Fernando.lison (talk)

Thanks for the compliment, thanks for mentioning my alias and trying to respect the license. However, these pictures are licensed under GFDL v 1.2 only hence the link on you site leads to the wrong target. I'm sure this can be solved. Regards --Ikiwaner (talk) 13:49, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I apologize for my error with your licenses... Already is all OK. Have you think about your contributor card?? Cheers. Fernando Lisón --Fernando.lison (talk)

Hello lkiwaner, I am working to produce content for a new science museum that is opening in Spokane, Washington for an exhibit about the Ice Age Floods. We would like to use one of your photos in the exhibit, and would like to know what your name is so that we can credit the photos. Would you be willing to provide that information? Your photos are wonderful, and have been a great asset to us! Thank you very much! You can also reach me at [email protected].

Best, Stephanie Lanning

Creative Commons?

Hi Ikiwaner - is there any reason why you do not use Creative Commons licenses for your photos? The lack of these makes your images inaccessible to some users of Wikimedia Commons material, such as the Encyclopedia of Life. It would be nice if you would consider adding Creative Commons licenses, please! Thanks - MPF (talk) 23:52, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there is. First I see no point why commercial usepapers and maganzines should be able to use my pictures for free without conributing to my equipment and travel. Second, I don't like the philosophy of CC that is relying on a internet website. Copyright is a long-term thing and I have no evidence that in 100 years the website will still be there. On the other hand, with GFDL 1.2 the license must be stored together with the image whereever digital or analogue. Third, GFDL allows modifications but requires you to keep a version history in order not to mess up with versions. CC doesn't. If sites like EoL don't want GFDL, it's their problem. For a websites, scientific use or open source projects I can't see a restriction that would hurt. --Ikiwaner (talk) 11:02, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification! I'll ask EoL about GFDL. - MPF (talk) 21:56, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Using one of your pictures in a textbook

I will be using your Winterthur Stadthaus picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Winterthur_Stadthaus.jpg) in a textbook (it shows at about 5 cm high, in an illustrations appendix, with some comment and the credits in the legend immediately below). This being printed text, would you still want it to be credited to 'Wikimedia:Ikiwaner'? I could also/alternatively add a real name, location, etc. I can also be contacted at thechabon a a a t hot mail d o o t com. Thanks very much for uploading that great picture.

Etwa so?

Photo Usage

Hello Ikiwaner,

Senem Deviren and I have recently completed the writing of a manuscript for an academic book entitled, “The Greening of Architecture,” which is being published by Ashgate Limited in London. We are asking for your permission to publish one of your images.

The book will be printed with black and white photographs and drawings and is primarily oriented to scholarly and professional audiences in architecture and planning. It is a history of the greening of contemporary architecture focusing between 1960 and 2010. Each chapter is a decade and describes the events, technical developments and seminal works of architecture and urban design during each ten-year period. We feel that this is an important and timely body of work, and we would love to include your project as a part of this history.

We would like to include the photograph of Black Rhino in our dedication page. We found the image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ngorongoro_Spitzmaulnashorn_edit1.jpg

We would be glad if you allow us to use you photo. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Phill

Image Permission for Science Textbook

Hi Ikiwaner,

I am contacting you on behalf of a publishing company. The author would really like to use your image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dry_Falls.jpg in his science textbook. I would like to get your permission for this image to be used in this textbook interior.

Please let me know if this might be possible and if you need more information.

Thanks!

You don't need a permission from me as long as you mention my name and the license CC-By-SA 3.0. Have fun --Ikiwaner (talk) 14:55, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chimpanzee

Hello Ikiwaner, I'm currently editing the Common Chimpanzee article in the Hebrew Wikipedia, and wanted to thank you for your beautiful photos from Gombe Stream National Park. Do you perhaps know if the female with two pups photographed in Gombe_Stream_NP_Mutter_und_Kinder.jpg is the one named Gremlin with the twins Golden and Glitter, which appear in many of the videos on Dr. Goodall website, such as this one?

Also, I was searching Commons for any free photographs of common chimpanzees using tools in the wild, with no success. I wondered if you know where such photographs can be found?

Kind Regards, H. sapiens (talk) 14:39, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear H. Sapiens, unfortunately I do not know the names of the apes I took photos of. But somebody who knows them should be able to tell. I am sure the jane goodall people can. --Ikiwaner (talk) 16:17, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Savanna Image

Hello,

My name is Joe Kamberos, and I am the assistant to the Project Coordinator for the International Jesuit Ecology Project (IJEP) at Loyola University of Chicago. IJEP is a three-year project to create an online Living Text that addresses select environmental challenges from an integrated scientific, moral, and spiritual perspective. This Living Text, Healing Earth, will be a curricular resource for environmental studies teachers and students in Jesuit institutions of higher education and secondary schools worldwide. You can find more information about IJEP at http://www.luc.edu/ijep/index.shtml.

We are beginning to create the framework for the online text using the Biodiversity chapter. One of our writers found an image which I traced to your site http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Savanna#mediaviewer/File:Kiang_West_savanna.jpg. We would like to credit you for your photo, but I was unable to find your name. Will you please send information regarding how you would like to be credited?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you, Joe
