Kodungallur (Malayalam: കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂർ, anglicised Cranganore) is a municipal town in the Thrissur District of Kerala state in India. It was known in ancient times as Mahodayapuram, Shinkli, Muchiri (anglicised Muziris) and Muyirikkodu. Muziris was a world famous and prosperous seaport at the mouth of the Periyar. The city was also the capital of en:Kulasekhara dynasty (Second Cheras), who ruled Kerala and some parts of Tamil Nadu from 800-1102 AD. Kodungallur is also the entry point to the Greater Cochin from the North Western parts of Kerala. The Corporation of Cochin has drafted a Master Plan that aims to develop Kodungallur as the satellite township around Kochi city.10°13′12″N 76°13′12″E / 10.22°N 76.22°E / 10.22; 76.22
