The 1965 bust of John F Kennedy stands where the first statue dedicated to Abraham Lincoln (in 1869) once stood. The Lincoln statue was removed from the Plaza in 1895, the year before the Supreme Court ruled racial segregation Constitutional. Calvert Vaux, the Plaza's designer, was found drowned in Gravesend Bay November 19.
