This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
- This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
- GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
- Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
- Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
- Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

| Required Costume Components
|
|
The following costume components are present and appear as described below.
|
|
|
|
Mask and Helmet
- The helmet is proportional to the wearer.
- The face consists of a gas mask with dark goggles over the eyes. The goggles connect with a leather strap.
- A kneepad is used as a mouthguard. There is specialized greeblie on either side of the mouthguard. The canvas strap on the mouthguard must appear to attach using a greeblie on either side.
- There is a helmet over the top of the mask with a triangular branding on the front, and a series of 10 vents on the sides.
- The mask and helmet is black in color and heavily weathered.

|
Balaclava
- A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer’s skin and/or facial hair.
|
|
|
|
Tunic
- The hooded tunic is made of a heavy linen. Dark grey or black in color.
- The cut is a waist-length, straight model with a fitted hood and sleeves that cover the palms.
- The tunic is heavily weathered with a strong oily or greasy finish.

|
|
|
pants
- The pants are linen harem or goa-style pants with a wide legs, and are a dark, moss-green.
- The pants are heavily weathered.
|
|
|
|
Gloves
- The gloves are thick military or work gloves, light brown or khaki in color.
- Gloves should be heavily weathered.
- Optional: leather-like cap at the back of the hand.
|
|
|
|
Vest
- A straight, collared vest made of black cotton must be present.
- There are no visible zippers or buttons.
- There are squares are stitched throughout.
- The vest is heavily weathered.

|
|
boots
- The boots are black leather or leather-like boots without laces.
- The boots contain a thick sole and wide brim.
- They are weathered.

| Optional Accessories
|
|
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

Snub Blaster
- Pistol style snub blaster.
|
|
|
|
Bag
- A heavily used linen or burlap bag to collect all sorts of junk and droid parts.
|
