Context: Rogue One
Orson Krennic, Director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial Military. As head of the Special Weapons Division, Director Krennic will stop at nothing to create the ultimate weapon and be in favor with the Emperor.

NOTE: Director Krennic Versions: Please note that there are four acceptable versions of the Director Krennic costume. Versions One and Two are seen throughout Rogue One. Version Two is seen in Eadu scenes. Versions Three and Four are in various flashback scenes. If one variant has already been approved, another variant will still need to be approved by the GML before use.


For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

The Imperial Officer Corps defines additional, optional levels of costuming excellence. In the page below, requirements for Level 2 “Executor” are listed in blue. Requirements for Level 3 “Imperator” are listed in red.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Krennikhair.jpeg Hair and facial appearance.
  • Version one to three hair must be medium-dark brown with moderate graying.
  • Version four is medium-dark brown only.
  • Costumer is clean shaven.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Hair appears natural.
  • If a hair appliance is used it is styled in a way as to not give the appearance of a wig.




Krennic-hat1.jpg Imperial Hat, Versions Two and Three
  • Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable.
    • Gabardine style weave is most accurate.
  • Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4" (101.6 mm) tall.
  • Front and rear "flaps" overlap on the sides and are about 4" (101.6 mm) high.
  • Front bill extends 3" down, decorated with 5, 6 or 7 concentric stitches.
  • Code disk is positioned in the center of the front flap, the code disk features an Imperial cog at its center.




Krenniktunic.jpeg Tunic
  • Tunic is constructed of a medium to heavy white twill weave fabric.
    • Wool or wool-like twill weave is preferred.
  • Double-breasted with a left over right closure on the tapered yoke.
  • Yoke wraps across the shoulder to the top shoulder seam.
  • The standing collar has square corners and is approximately 2 inches tall.
  • Collar closes flush and snug; modesty panel is acceptable but not required.
  • Two code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket located half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole.
  • Wrist length sleeves without decoration, cuffs or buttons.
  • Fasteners on the uniform must not be visible, including those that would hold the cape in place if present.
  • Cape collar edge must lie flush to tunic collar edge.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • There is a dart approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in the top center of the yoke.
  • Sleeves contain 2 seams. One along the front and one along the back.
  • Tunic is constructed without topstitching.




KNK2.jpg Rank Bar
  • Worn on the left side of the tunic over the heart.
  • Rank consists of colored plastic tiles mounted on a metal or metal looking bar that is approximately 1.25 inches in height, and approximately 5 inches in width.
  • Rank tiles have an approximate 1/8 inch depth.
  • Rank tile dimensions are appropriate and proportional to the sizing of the bar to allow for equidistant and even spacing from each other and the border of the bar.
  • Versions One and Two consist of two metal bars with six Red tiles on the top bar and six blue tiles on the bottom bar.
  • Versions Three and Four consist of one metal bar with six red tiles.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Rank consists of colored plastic push buttons mounted on a metal bar.




CCR1.jpg Code Cylinders
  • Two code cylinders are worn on the uniform, one in each cylinder pocket.
  • Dosimeter style: True radiation dosimeters or exact replicas, with correct clip and blue top.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Dosimeters have a silver, non-brass, clip




Krennikcape.jpeg Cloak, Version One
  • Fabric is of a light to medium white cotton twill or similar material.
  • The cloak must be fitted to the wearer.
  • Cloak must be fastened flush to the tunic with no gaping and no visible fasteners.
  • The back of the cloak reaches from the shoulders to the ankle of the boot, with a slit in the center back that begins somewhere between the costumers crotch area and just above the knee.
  • The opening sits centrally at the front.
  • Cloak has a collar that is approximately 1.5" (4cm) tall.
  • Collar has 6 parallel single stitches evenly spaced.
  • The cloak is a full three-quarters circle.
  • Yoke is made up of three sections.
  • Cloak is made up of a number of panels/sections including the collar. See the cape detail page for more information.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Cape collar edge must lie flush to tunic collar edge.
    • A single stitch down the front edge of the collar on both sides meets with a stitch on the front of the yoke.
  • Yoke
    • One rear section runs across the top of the back (width approx. 15” (38 cm)) and joins with the two other sections on each side
    • The sections on each side wrap over the shoulders to each code cylinder pocket on the outer edge up to the collar on the inner.
    • Running from the collar to the seam line of the shoulder and the arm the width is approx. 4.5” (11.5 cm) The right side will be equal length to the left side.
    • Running from the center rear of the collar to the base of the yoke is approx. 5.5” (14 cm)
    • The yoke seams are a right angle to the line of the back, and come up over the shoulder to the front and include 3 lines of stitching evenly spaced and no more than ½” (1 cm) in total width.
  • There is an angular three-line stitching that is used to join the sections together.
  • There is a section on the inside front of the cloak that runs from the first join to the outer edge and is included on both sides.
  • The triple stitch seam follows all seams except the front seam and the bottom hem
  • There is a triple stitch from the middle of the back down to the slit, this also continues up under the yoke.
  • Sides have a single stitch pattern that resembles an arm slit but is not open at the sides.




Krennicraincoat.png Rain Poncho, Versions Two and Three
  • Made from the same material as the cape.
  • The closure is located at the costumers right side. The collar overlaps and the opening is approximately 2.5 inches on the shoulder, going down vertically to the bottom of the yoke.
  • The yoke is flush against the costumer and has a seam down the front center, this ends in a point.
  • The edge of the poncho has approximately 1 inch seam around all edges.
  • The collar is approximately 3 inches tall at the front and is top stitched with lines approximately every 1/4 inch.
  • The back of the poncho is flat across the back.
  • The poncho voids at the edge of the costumers shoulders.
  • The front of the poncho has a piece attached to the yoke but separate from the sides
    • The front extends down to just past the crotch area and is tucked in to the costumer's belt.
    • There is a welt pocket approximately 6 inches long and following the angle of the yoke on the left side
    • There is a code cylinder pocket in which two code cylinders are worn




Krennikbelt.jpeg Belt
  • The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or leather-like material.
  • It is approximately 2" (50.8mm) tall.
  • The belt is loopless.
  • A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle.
  • The belt is worn with the snap on the right of the wearer.
  • The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal or metal-like material.
  • The buckle size is approximately 2 1/2" (65 mm) high and 4" (100 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners.
  • Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center.
    • Refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Belt is made of leather.
  • Between 2" (50.8 mm) and 3" (76.2 mm) tall.
  • Buckle has a slight horizontal curve.
  • Belt has a groove 1/4" from the top and bottom edge along the length of the belt.
  • Belt may hang lower on the right due to the weight of accessories used, if used.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
  • Belt has three large loops on the right or back side to hold extra ammunition.
  • Three ammunition cartridges are held snuggly within each loop




Krennikpant.jpeg Jodhpur Trousers
  • Fabric is a black medium weight suiting material, the weave matches the tunic material.
  • Jodhpurs are canon, with semi-stiff flares to the hip/thigh area.
  • Worn neatly tucked into tall boots.
  • If pockets are included they are not visible with the tunic on.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Flare is more triangular in shape than other officers
  • Pants are made from a wool twill.




Krennikgloves.jpeg Gloves, Version One, Two and Three
  • Black, wrist length gloves constructed of a non-textured leather or leather-like material.
  • Gloves have a plain back and no visible adornments


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Gloves have a button on the palm at the wrist
  • Gloves made of leather
  • Gloves end just past the wrist




Krennikboots.jpeg Boots
  • Knee-high, black, riding style, lace-less, smooth non-textured, leather or leather-like material.
  • There are no buckles, snap tabs or decoration.
  • Boots have conservative heels.
  • A single stretch panel or zipper may be present, they are to be hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.
    • Not visible from the front, side or back.
  • The top of the boots may be flat or Spanish Style, but not Cowboy or Super Hero (pointed at the front) style.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Boots are made of leather and have no zippers.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
  • Original German marching boots or authentic replication.
  • Boots have a top adjustment strap on the outside of the boots.
  • Boots to have a flat top.
  • The straps are set slightly to the rear with the tabs facing the rear.




Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


Krennikcontact.jpeg Eye Color
  • Blue contact lenses.
    • The costumer is encouraged to contact their local health care provider before considering the use of contacts.




Krennikholster.jpeg DT-29 holster, black
  • Holster is worn on the right-hand side of the belt in the cross-draw position, hanging closely to the belt by one single loop the entire width of it's top
  • Leather, or a leather-like material.
  • If present the holster snugly fits the blaster.

  • DT-29 Heavy blaster pistol
    • If present, must be an exact representation of a DT-29 blaster.
