In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.
- This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
- GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
- Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
- Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
- Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

| Required Costume Components
|
|
The following costume components are present and appear as described below.
|
|
|
|
Helmet
- Phase I Realistic Style Clone Helmet.
- Fan-made helmet.
- Animated style helmets are not combined with movie armor.
- Helmet is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange covers entire helmet leaving a full front white diamond pattern and full back of helmet white diamond pattern.
- Rectangular indent at the back center of the helmet is black.
- Within white diamond pattern on back, primer gray detail covers the indented band and raised edges along side of indented black rectangle.
- Helmet Fin on top of dome.
- Rear fin has "brake light" cover installed.
- Black eye lens.
- Helmet frown is charcoal grey in color.
- Wire or plastic mesh is utilized inside the helmet to cover the open pieces of the frown.
- (6) vents on each side of helmet cheeks.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
- Helmet has the appearance of a neck ring.
|
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
- Helmet has an enclosed complete neck ring that seals the helmet to the neck.
- Rear fin light is illuminated.
- Light is steady, does not blink, and is composed of 3 LEDs.

|
Neck Seal
- Neck seal is black in color with vertical ribbing or smooth in appearance.
- No logos or labels are visible.
- If the seal is not incorporated as part of the undersuit, a balaclava or other similar covering is acceptable.

|
|
|
Under Suit
- Realistic style Clone Undersuit.
- Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos.
|
|
|
|
Shoulder Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Shoulder Armor.
- Shoulders are tear drop in shape with all rounded edges.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange covers the lower quarter of each Shoulder Armor leaving a white rounded top half.
- Left shoulder has a bomb squad insignia in the white area that depicts a black edged circle with black elongated bomb in center. Interior of circle has lower half with jagged top edge painted pinkish red, and top half yellow.
- Shoulders are padded so as not to rest flat against the arms.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Upper Arm Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Upper Arm Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white and overlaid completely with bright orange.
- Armor has a front hard line outside edge and inside rounded edge.
- Armor piece has a dimple on the lower area of the back of the arm.
- Armor is seamless.
- No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose the underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Elbow Armor
- Realistic style Clone Elbow Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Elbow straps are orange and have a raised detail line at the top and bottom of the strap.
- Elbows are bright orange except for a white triangle on back flat surface.
- Armor has two parallel dashed detail slots on each outside edge of elbow at the strap connection.
- Elbows are mirror images of each other with a notched area on the outside of the elbow above the detail marks.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose the underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Forearm Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Forearm Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Shape of both the left and right forearms are mirror images of each other.
- Bright orange detail on right forearm covers inside facing surface along side compad and flares outward toward elbow.
- Armor is seamless.
- No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
- Right forearm has a compad with 8 small buttons,1 Large main button, and 1 slightly smaller rectangular button.
- Forearm tops have a flattened triangular area with a ridge that comes to a point at the top of the forearm.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose the underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Compad has detail antenna on its left.

|
|
Hand Plates
- Realistic Style Clone Hand Plates.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange covers hand plates leaving a white triangle pattern that is wider at the wrist.
- Hand plates have a top curving ridge that come to a point over the index or middle finger just past the main knuckle of the hand.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose the underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

|
Gloves
- Black over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
- Gloves cover any exposed skin.
- Gloves do not show any labels or logos when the armor is worn.

|
Chest Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Chest Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange frames a white diamond that is formed by the Chest, Abs, and Belt. The lower sides of the chest are bright orange and angle downward to a point on the belt. Bright orange lines angle from each outside lower edge of upper chest, and angle up to connect at center point below neck opening collar. Neck opening collar is bright orange.
- Chest and back armor meet together at the sides with no open gap.
- Two detail slots on right breast.
- Chest and back armor match together at the sides with no open gap.
- Shoulder straps are placed underneath the chest to connect to the back.
- Bright orange has scuff marks the expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Back Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Back Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange detail covers neck opening edge, back box detail and extends down diagonally along sides to a center point on the detonator.
- Rear center plate is all bright orange and has detailed area that contains 4 circles.
- Under the circles, at the left side of the back, there are two parallel lines
- On the right of the back there is a squared detail.
- Back and chest armor match together at the sides with no open gap.
- Shoulder straps are placed underneath the back to connect to the chest.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Highly detailed resin back box plate cover with circuitry insets.

|
Abdomen Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Abdomen Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange detail continues down along sides to align with diamond pattern from Chest and ends at a point on the belt. Pattern is similar on back and continues to a point on the detonator.
- Eight 1/4" diameter holes, with four holes inside each indented channel of the abdomen.
- Abdomen section wraps around the wearers body and is sealed at sides or at back.
- Abdomen is completely contained under the chest and back armor.
- Armor aligns with codpiece with the seam line hidden by the belt.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

Codpiece and Posterior Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Codpiece and Posterior Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white and overlaid completely with bright orange.
- Codpiece and Posterior armor connect at the hips.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Hips have correct detail connector snap and edge feature at the codpiece and posterior side connection.

|
Belt
- Realistic Style Clone Belt, Boxes and Detonator.
- Belt, boxes and detonator are painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Belt, boxes and detonator are all bright orange except for the white triangle on the front of the belt and top of the detonator on back that continue the pattern from the abdomen.
- Belt front, between front boxes, has three vertical rectangle indents which are spaced apart by two protruding rectangle areas.
- The rest of the belt is flat surfaced with raised edging on top and bottom that run along the rest of the belt.
- Eight Belt Boxes are attached to Belt, with four on each side.
- The two largest Boxes are in front with angled top surface that is higher toward the center.
- The smallest boxes are located behind the front boxes, about 1/8 inch apart and have an angled end on top.
- The medium sized matching boxes, with flat top cover, are about 1/8 inch from smallest boxes.
- Left rear box is spaced closer to detonator and has two square buttons in the top left corner, and two dashed indented detail marks on bottom right.
- Right rear box is spaced closer to detonator and has a bar with two small cylinders centered, and two dashed indented detail marks on bottom left.
- A detonator is centered and attached to back of Belt.
- Detonator tube is about 2 1/4 inch diameter with wider detailed end caps.
- Seven horizontally aligned square buttons are on left side of tube, facing backwards.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Boxes are notched on back and fit flush to belt.

OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
- Back of belt, between rear boxes, has horizontal ribbing.
- Detonator connects to back of belt without any visible clips and is firmly secured in horizontal position.

Thigh Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Thigh Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white and overlaid completely with bright orange.
- Front of thigh armor has a flat triangular area near the knee.
- From the top of the triangle a ridge line travels up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
- Rear of the thigh has an indention.
- Armor is seamless.
- No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
- Bright orange has scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Outside of lower edge comes to a point.
- Inner lower edge is rounded.

|
Knee Armor
- Realistic Style Knee Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange borders the upper portion of the knee armor with the white angling up to form a diamond point.
- Knees have a protruding flat area in front oriented towards the top of Knee.
- Knees bend around the front and connect to white detail clips that connect the strap on each side.
- Bright orange knee strap is on each knee and wraps around the back of the leg. Straps have a raised center strip that is also orange.
- Bright orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

- Connection between the knee and the strapping has an orange detail clip.

|
Lower Leg Armor
- Realistic Style Clone Thigh Armor.
- Armor is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange borders the upper portion of the armor with the white angling up toward the Knee forming diamond point. Bright orange carries around back of calf forming a downward pointing diamond shape pattern.
- Front of lower leg has a flat triangular detail at the top which transitions to a ridge line that travels down the front of the armor to the ankle.
- Back of lower leg armor features arched indentation, just under the calf, that follows down to the ankle.
- Bottom of this indentation features a smaller arch detail at the heel.
- Outside of the calf is closed.
- Calf can have an access area on the inside of the leg.
- Calves are seamless and have a trap door access through the indent in the rear of the lower leg.
- Bright orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

|
Boots
- Realistic Style Clone Boots.
- Boots are white with bright orange detail.
- Bright orange covers the front and lower portions of the Boots, forming a white angled point on top front that carries around to back of the Boots.
- Boots are ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle.
- Boots are lace-less.
- The boots have armor detail to include a natural seam at the toe and a white strap that goes over the top of the foot with two protruding disks at each side of the strap.
- There are no markings or labels from the shoe makers.
- Boot soles are flat.
- Boot soles are colored primer grey.

| Optional Accessories
|
|
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

Bombsquad Backpack
- Realistic Style Clone Backpack.
- Backpack is painted matte or satin white with bright orange detail and bombsquad symbol.
- Bright orange covers the back surface lower half leaving the top with a downward diamond shape point. Side flat panels are also bright orange.
- Centered on back surface is a bomb squad insignia in the white area that depicts a black edged circle with black elongated bomb in center. Interior of circle has lower half with jagged top edge painted pinkish red, and top half yellow.
- Backpack has a tan or khaki fabric covering top.
- A white detonator-type tube is attached under the backpack.
- Shoulder straps are gray and black.
- Bright orange areas are weathered with various scuff marks that expose underlying white.
- Backpack is weathered in shades of gray.

Blue Virus Bomb and Pliers
- Blue Virus Bomb is round with three protruding tubes and flat round protruding face.
- Bomb is steel or metal with yellow and black detail.
- Flat round protruding face has inset LEDs or appearance of inset lighting.
- Pliers are steel or metal and have serrated teeth edges. Handle grips are dark green.

- Bomb lights up with LED lighting detail.

|
DC-15S Blaster
Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15S is smaller in scale than the DC-15A blaster rifle. Although it has a shorter range than that of the “A” model, it is easier to handle with a higher rate of fire and features a folding stock for braced firing.
- Realistic Clone Style DC-15S Blaster.
- Blaster may be scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
- Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
- Wire frame sight.
- Folding stock.
- Twelve radiator fins evenly spaced along the length of barrel.
- Igniter detail knobs.
- Charge magazine clip on right side.
- Total length is approximately 26 inches (66 cm).
- Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is incorrect.

DC-15A Blaster Rifle
Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DC-15A is a Tibanna gas cartridge powered weapon. Hyper-ionized blue plasma bolts are more than capable of penetrating armored units. Exceptionally effective against both droids and contemporary targets.
- Realistic Clone Style DC-15A Blaster Rifle.
- Blaster rifle is scratch built out of plastic, wood, metal or cast in resin.
- Blaster has realistic Episode II or Episode III details:
- Flip up sight in down position.
- Ten radiator fins are evenly spaced along the length of the barrel.
- Power setting adjuster detail lever.
- Sniper Scope attached under rifle in storage position.
- Charge magazine clip on left side.
- Igniter detail knobs.
- Total length is approximately 55 inches (139.7 cm).
- Because of the scale, the Hasbro version is not allowed.
