With the new radial compressor test bed, the Engine Acoustics Department of the #DLR Institute of Propulsion Technology is making an important contribution to the 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲. The test rig was built as part of the "AdPG" research project (AdPG = 𝘈𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 - 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘴). Around 70% of the electricity consumed in industry is used for mechanical energy, particularly for turbomachinery. 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. The AdPG project will set standards for understanding and provide new data for the development of adaptive surge control algorithms and a testbed for testing new control concepts. To achieve this, the partners are developing innovative technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and digital solutions such as edge computing. The successful launch of the radial compressor test bed marks a significant milestone in this research project. The joint project with partners Industrial Analytics IA GmbH and AviComp Controls GmbH is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action as part of the applied non-nuclear research funding in the 7th Energy Research Programme "Innovations for the Energy Transition" in the funding area of thermal power plants with a focus on turbomachinery.
