Pioneering Hydrogen Engine Success By transforming a R&D diesel engine into a hydrogen-powered one, we've gained incredible expertise. We achieved Diesel like performance and efficiency levels. We've worked on loads of power cell unit optimization projects, like measuring piston temperatures, or testing emissions and analysing particles. After many kilometers and constant learning, it’s time for this engine to retire. A huge thank you to our dear work-horse for all the hard work. Now it’s time for new insights: several all-new series hydrogen engines are currently being tested at MAHLE. #MAHLE #Hydrogen #HydrogenEngine #Testing #Research #Development #Pioniergeist #SustainableTransport #WeShapeFutureMobility

While providing a suitable replacement car for customers who bring in their vehicle to be repaired or inspected may be standard practice for authorized dealers, it’s quite a headache for many independent workshops, both financially and in terms of effort. Workshops must deal with buying, taxing, and insuring the vehicle, paying the operating costs, and, above all, finding the time for cleaning and maintenance. That's why offering e-bikes as courtesy vehicles can be a cost-effective, time-saving, and sustainable alternative. Besides being inexpensive to buy, run, and maintain, it takes up less space. Especially in urban areas, where commute distances are rarely longer than a few kilometers, many workshops are starting to challenge old ways of thinking and offer e-bikes additionally to cars. We've visited some of the pioneers of the practice. If you want to know what they had to say, visit MPULSE: https://lnkd.in/edpTcQuB #MAHLE #ebike #courtesy #vehicle #workshops

During last week’s Formula Student Germany event at Hockenheimring, Dr. Markus Auer, Head of Project House Fuel Cell at MAHLE, took the time to meet up personally with partner team HyDriven Twente. The team from the Netherlands is developing a formula student car with fuel cell drive. MAHLE is supporting the team in weekly calls, troubleshooting about the vehicle and the fuel cell. “This event is a great opportunity to meet personally and bring each other up to speed about the latest developments”, Markus says. “The young development team says our input is highly valuable for them and that’s what it’s all about.” The group went on to talk about the next milestones for the car, including driving the vehicle at the upcoming Formula Student France event and the potential of further support from MAHLE. “We also discussed possibilities for hydrogen regulations within the FSAE, the regulatory body of the formula student competition and how MAHLE can also support here. Formula Student France and Austria are leading the way. It’s awesome that our partner team from Twente has to opportunity to present and drive their hydrogen-powered car at the Formula Student event in France next week”, Markus concludes. #MAHLE #HyDrivenTwente #FormulaStudent #Hydrogen #FuelCell #FuelCellDrive #Racecar #Pioniergeist #Innovation #RacetrackToRoad #WeShapeFutureMobility

At MAHLE, we're committed to reducing our environmental impact. Switching our Stuttgart fleet of 70 vehicles to HVO100 fuel, we're slashing annual carbon emissions by up to 250 tons. HVO100 is a fossil free fuel made of renewable raw materials delivering the same performance as regular diesel and can be used without modification of engines or infrastructure. In a pilot project at the beginning of 2024, we've already shifted the transport network connecting our central warehouse in the Stuttgart region, with the Mühlacker and Vaihingen MAHLE plants to this advanced biofuel—saving up to 90% in carbon emissions. #MAHLE #Sustainability #HVO100 #AdvancedBioFuel #BioFuels #Decarbonization #SustainableTransportation #SustainableLogisitics #WeShapeFutureMobility

From inspiration to innovation: modeled after the wings of an owl, MAHLE’s engineering and simulation team developed a bionic structure for an e-vehicle cooling fan, making demanding fuel cell and battery electric commercial vehicle applications significantly quieter. Stefan Schmidgall, Head of Pre-Development Fan Modules breaks down inspiration, innovation, and impact of MAHLE’s latest development. The owl is one of the quietest flying birds in the world and it is particularly in noise-sensitive areas that this bionic design shows its strength. During fast charging of vehicles, for example, reduced noise levels increase comfort for drivers and residents alike. The bionic fan blades can reduce sound output by more than half on average. MAHLE will present its new bionic fan design to the public for the first time at the IAA Transportation in Hannover from September 17 to 22, 2024. #MAHLEgoesbionic #MAHLE #ThermalManagement #BionicCoolingFan #BionicDesign #SustainableTransportation #Pioniergeist #Innovation #WeShapeFutureMobility

SAE Standard for Static Wireless Charging with MAHLE Positioning System Published SAE International, the US-based non-profit association for the advancement of mobility technologies, has selected the DIPS (Differential Inductive Positioning System) positioning system from MAHLE and Electreon as the global standard solution for wireless charging of electric vehicles. Now the new SAE J2954 standard has been published. The MAHLE positioning system DIPS (Differential Inductive Positioning System) is a paradigm shift in the field of e-mobility. It is based on a magnetic field and automatically establishes a connection with the targeted charging point as the electric vehicle approaches. A special navigation system in the vehicle display supports the driver to bring the vehicle into position easily. The charging process starts automatically. This also works with an autonomous parking vehicle. Here the parking system receives the necessary positioning instructions instead of a driver. Thanks to the unique MAHLE positioning process, the parking is done in one move and very easily & reproducibly. Even in unfavorable environmental conditions such as a thick layer of snow or damp leaves on the floor. A great success for the MAHLE development team. Dr. Mike Böttigheimer, Lead Engineer Wireless Charging at MAHLE explains: “After power transfer, communication and now positioning, all the cornerstones have been set in standardization. This situation is a game changer for the industry, so we expect the market ramp-up for wireless charging in the near future." #MAHLE #Emobility #WirelessCharging #Charging #CutTheCord #SAE #Standardization #WeShapeFutureMobility

Up to 80 university teams from around the world compete at the Formula Student Germany 2024 at the famous Hockenheimring this weekend. With their individual constructed single seat formula racecars the teams compete for the best overall package of construction, performance and financial and sales planning. The FSG has made a name for itself in displaying Pioniergeist and an appetite for innovation—the event introduced a competition for electric cars as early as 2010. Now the first teams are pushing for fuel cell drives. Here MAHLE is again providing valuable support with its many years of experience with hydrogen. MAHLE is proud partner of the event from inception—it is this Pioniergeist that makes FSG a perfect fit for us. Supporting the next generation of passionate pioneers. 📸: FSG Haindl #MAHLE #teamMAHLE #FormulaStudent #FormulaStudentGermany #FSG #FSG2024 #engineeringtalent #talent #pioneers #Pioniergeist #hockenheim #hockenheimring #supportyoungtalent #WeShapeFutureMobility
