Does the term “farm holiday” paint a picture in your mind? 🐥 Maybe you instantly think of “Bullerbü” or “Süderhof”: childhood shows that brought the charm of farm life into our homes, making us dream of waking up to golden fields at sunrise. Even more so, they tickled our longing for those bespoke “farm holidays”: a somewhat 90s phenomenon where many farms turned into tourism, sharing the beauty and simplicity of rural life with city dwellers and their children. Sleeping in the hayloft on a golden, crackling soft carpet, being woken in the early morning by the crowing of a rooster, stroking chicks and romping around with the farm's horses and dogs, maybe even driving a tractor – the idyllic vision of farm holidays back then was playful, perhaps a bit romantic, promised some adventure and a welcome getaway from the concrete jungle. Like the original idea behind farm holidays, our concept at Raus today is designed to be in harmony with the environment. Hand in hand with our dedicated partners – more than 30 land and forestry farmers who operate our cabins with us – we offer our guests a behind-the-scenes look into farming: What does agriculture look like in 2024? What is permaculture, and how does community-supported agriculture work? How much work goes into running a farm shop, and when is which grain harvested? Our hosts make their farms, meadows, fields, and gardens accessible, sharing values, products, and nature with our guests, and perhaps even a tractor ride if you ask them! For your modern "farm holiday" with Raus, this means you can delve into a variety of extras and activities to add to your stay: a delicious breakfast basket or meal kit made with farm-fresh ingredients waiting for you upon arrival at your cabin, a farm visit or walk through the herb garden, an alpaca hike, and more. Or you visit the nearby pastures with various fluffy neighbors, watch as the fields around you are harvested or the yellow rapeseed dance in the wind. And if your childhood self now eagerly wants to pet a pony (or one of the newborn alpaca babies at 📍 Wildblumenwiese), here is an overview of all our cabins close to a farm: https://lnkd.in/dMsP63Cz

At work, we're constantly learning and growing in our fields. But how often do we delve into topics that simply fascinate us – yep, we’re talking about that nerdy knowledge that is purely measured by its fun factor, not by KPIs! With the Perseid meteor shower peaking on the night of August 12th-13th, it's the perfect time to do just that — and perhaps impress someone special in the process who's not your boss! 💫 📖 Did you know? In Ancient Greece, shooting stars were believed to be the tears of the gods, a symbol of divine emotion streaking across the heavens. Many cultures have long held the belief that these meteors can grant wishes — a magical notion that still captures our imaginations today. The trick? Make your wish silently as the shooting star fades, and keep it a secret! 🔭 But here's the real science: what we romantically call "shooting stars" are actually meteors – tiny particles from space, such as rocks or dust, that enter the Earth's atmosphere at high speed and burn up. This particular meteor shower occurs when Earth passes through the debris left behind by the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle (should we name a cabin after it?), resulting in a spectacular display of up to 100 meteors per hour! 🌟 Whilst Stargazing, plan to stay for at least an hour, as shooting stars often appear in bursts. In the meantime, you can explore constellations with our Visit Dark Skies audio experience! And as the Perseid meteors light up the night sky, take a moment to reflect and maybe even make a wish. After all, it's said that wishes made during this meteor shower are more likely to come true!

Calling all tech nerds: Have you ever wondered about the technology behind operating over sixty Raus cabins across Germany and Austria? Our business model is much more complex than running a traditional boutique hotel with fifty keys in the city. We have many rooms and they are all scattered across very beautiful, very different, and usually very remote locations, oftentimes without any access to infrastructure. Yet we seamlessly create magical experiences for all our guests. So, what’s our secret? Without giving too much away: we blend a nature front end with a tech back end 💻 If you want to dive into the details about how we infuse tech throughout a nature based stay while remaining invisible, real-time sustainability tracking and our tech stack, tune in to this episode of the Hotel Tech Insider podcast with Jordan Hollander: https://lnkd.in/dEMhCvqR

Where do you stand between heaven and fields? 🌾 Maybe you have never really thought about it, but where in your everyday life do you get in touch with country life? Whether it's on a stroll through the weekly market, at the organic food shop or your favourite natural wine bar – we usually let the country life come to us in the cities, but rarely walk in the other direction ourselves. Just remember, when was the last time you embarked out on a farm, watching the hay harvest or the cows being fed? Perhaps it's time to leave the city behind and wander through the fields like an explorer, asking yourself: How does the carrot actually get to the organic food shop? When do you sow the grain? Why are hay bales round and straw bales square?  Along the way, you may get into conversation with farmers who will tell you about the hard but peaceful work in the fresh air, about the peace and clarity that lies between heaven and the fields, about potatoes and tomatoes, about farm life and their home. Some of our locations are situated on the grounds of picturesque farms and offer you the ideal starting point for your journey. While a tractor chugs along in the distance, you can indulge in your wander… or shall we say landlust and, if you feel like it, even book a guided tour through the vegetable garden or a meet & feed with alpacas, and stock up on fresh eggs, milk, cheese and bread for your breakfast in the farm shop afterwards. And once you've taken in the hustle and bustle between heaven and fields – and finally sorted out the carrot issue – you'll for sure not only get a new perspective on life in the countryside, but also on our lives in the cities. Are we losing the ground under our feet? 🪱 Many of us think about climate change almost daily, as highlighted by today’s 2024 People’s Climate Vote from the UNDP. However, when we think about our environmental crisis, we often consider our planet as a whole, but we rarely focus on the very earth beneath our feet. The truth is, how our soils are doing is intimately connected to our climate. Healthy soils can store CO₂ as carbon, thereby removing it from the atmosphere and increasing resilience to extreme weather. Agriculture plays a significant role in this process: nearly half of land in Germany is agricultural land, making regenerative farming a crucial part of our journey towards a more sustainable future. That's why our partnership with Klim for soil regeneration is such an important milestone for us! When staying with us, you can now choose to add an extra €5 for regional climate protection. This contribution regenerates 500 square metres of soil – as much as if 25 of our cabins were lined up next to each other. Yay!!! To understand the broader connection between soils, farming, and climate change, we spoke with Nina Mannheimer, co-founder of Klim. In our latest Raus Journal article, she offers a fresh perspective on regeneration, our fields and how our partnership is contributing to healthier grounds. https://lnkd.in/dYACHPAB

Is it possible for travel to ever be sustainable? 🌿 Promoting sustainable travel is an ongoing process — we're fully aware of that. We’re on a journey where we continuously learn and improve. That’s why we’re even happier to be named one of three cutting-edge companies shaping the future of sustainable travel solutions in the latest print issue of Country & Townhouse: “When it comes to where you stay, hotels often aren’t the most sustainable choice, wasting huge volumes of water, energy, and food in the name of customer comfort. Startup Raus believes that it’ll be far better for the planet – and, to boot, your mental health – to have your stay out in nature instead. The company offers custom-designed, off-grid cabin getaways across Germany and Austria that are completely self-contained and equipped with cooking facilities, tools, water tanks, and solar power. When booking through Raus, customers can also choose to spend a little extra to fund essential soil regeneration.” Thank you for including us, Matilda Cox, and for the nice company with Viatu and Midnight Trains! Read the article online here: https://lnkd.in/eVqBJhdM
