🌍 How are alternative fuels facilitating climate-neutral driving?🌱 Alternative fuels, also known as clean or renewable fuels, are crucial in reducing emissions from #transportation and achieving EU climate goals. These CO2-neutral fuels, whether liquid or gaseous, are preoduced from #electricity, ideally from renewable sources like solar and wind energy. They are energy-dense and can be used in traditional combustion engines without technical modifications. However, the are less efficient than #BatteryElectric vehicles and have high production costs due to limited industrial infrastructure. With approximately 8.1 million heavy #trucks contributing to about one-third of road #transport emissions, the transport sector is a major CO2 emitter in Europe. 🚛 The European Commission aims to reduce these emissions by 90% for new trucks by 2040. Hydrogen and e-fuels hold promise for the future, though widespread use faces challenges due to infrastructure gaps and production energy losses. Biofuels, such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and biogas, offer immediate solutions, although their reliance on organic matter sparks debate. The road to zero emissions by 2050 is complex, but the adoption of alternative fuels represent a significant step forward. Did you know that Scania Group and SCA are paving the way for fossil-free heavy #transport with an #BatteryElectric timber truck designed for tough conditions? 🚚 The world’s first electric timber truck was deployed in Sweden in 2022. Since then, this vehicle has already covered over 46,000 kilometers, equivalent to more than one lap around the globe. 🌍 Over a year of operation, the electric timber truck contributes to reducing CO2-emissions by approx. 55,000 kg annually. "The cooperation with Scania is an important way for us to jointly find innovative solutions for sustainable transport. […] We have come a long way in our industrial processes, which are already 96 percent fossil-free. We are very pleased that we together with Scania can break new ground to make the heaviest transports fossil-free," says Hans Djurberg, former Head of Sustainability at SCA. #TRATONGROUP #TRATONElectrifies #FutureOfMobility #Sustainability

On #WorldEVDay, we’re highlighting the crucial need for a robust and reliable #charging infrastructure to support the uptake of #eMobility in the transport sector. ⚡🚚 Dirk Höke, Head of Governmental Relations at the #TRATONGROUP, shares insights into Germany's plans to establish an e-truck charging network. Part of the Charging Infrastructure Master Plan II, this initiative aims to roll out 4,200 charging points at 350 key locations, createing a user-friendly, nationwide charging network along major transit routes, of which 1,800 will adhere to the Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS) with a nominal charging capacity of at least 1 MW. 🚛🔌 Germany, at the heart of Europe’s logistics network, is set to become a key player in the global #electrification of #transportation. Höke highlights that while challenges remain, the foundations are being laid for a cleaner, more #sustainable #FutureOfTransort. Now is the time to shift to commercial #BEVs and #TRATON and its brands are committed to driving this transformation. To fully unlock the potential of #ElectricVehicles in transport, we urnetly need investment in charging infrastructure across Europe. Would you drive an #electric truck from Södertälje, Sweden to Istanbul, Turkey? 🚛🔋 Scania's "Queens of the Road" just proved it is possible! To celebrate 30 years of cooperation between Scania Group, Volkswagen Group and Doğuş Otomotiv, the Queens of the Road embarked on an ambitious journey, putting #BatteryElectric truck technology to the test across Eastern Europe. Covering thousands of kilometers through diverse terrain and challenging conditions, this journey has shattered the myth that #electric trucks aren't suitable for long-haul transport. At the #TRATONGROUP, we're committed to #TransformingTransportationTogether by advancing #eMobility across our brands. This journey proves that the technology is ready. Now we need a robust #charging infrastructure to accelerate the uptake of #BEVs in transport. ⚡️ Discover more updates from this trip by exploring #QueenOfTheRoad #TransformingTransportationTogether #TRATONelectrifies
Driving an electric truck from Södertälje to Istanbul ⚡️ Update #9 🚛🔋 We made it - 4439 km 🤩🎉 We crossed the border into Türkiye 3 am yesterday morning after another tough 15h of border queues where our BEV this time only lost 8% (from 58% to 50%) of battery in 38 degrees of heat (at least the first hours - queuing went on for a while 😩🤣). Our BEV - it’s a machine 💪⚡️🔋🤣 You can hear more about the border experience in Elin Engström upcoming post. We arrived at the Scania TR workshop around lunch, after a couple of hours of well deserved sleep, with mixed feelings (much like after our last trip) of pride, tiredness (this trip has been a trial) and sorrow because we almost can’t believe that it’s over. Yesterday evening we were all preparing to ask “so, when do we leave tomorrow” only to realise we won’t… 😢 A longer reflection post from the trip is coming soon! But first we could all use some well deserved rest to get our brains back up and running (we have been getting an average of about 3-5 hours of sleep per night for quite some time now - the truckers life is tough 😩). But it’s coming and I’ll even throw in some nice clips of us overtaking other trucks ⚡️🚛😎 so stay tuned ⚡️⚡️ #scania #electrification #queenoftheroad Amanda Gerdvall Ines Kasumovic Kristine Stålhandske

Did you know that #BatteryElectric vehicles (#BEVs) powered by renewable energy have the highest potential for climate protection among all land-based vehicles? 🌍 According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), BEVs offer the best eco-balance, making them a crucial player in the fight against #ClimateChange. Here’s a striking example: Replacing just 10,000 diesel trucks with electric ones could prevent around 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. 🚛⚡That's a significant step toward a sustainable future! To make this possible, advanced #battery technologies are key: 🔋 Lithium-ion batteries – Popular for their high energy density and reliability, ideal for high-current applications. 🔋 Lithium iron phosphate batteries – Valued for their robustness, longevity, and cost-effectiveness. 🔋 Lithium-sulphur batteries – Lightweight and cost-efficient, helping reduce vehicle weight. 🔋 Solid-state batteries – Offering high energy density and faster charging, though still in early stages of mainstream adoption. As we move forward, the #TRATONGROUP ris committed to driving innovation in EV technology, leading the way toward a greener, more #SustainableFuture.
