What research skills do mentors help develop in their mentees?
(1) Communication skills: often underestimated, especially in STEM research fields. Clearly communicating complex scientific findings is not only crucial e.g. to secure funding, but it is also our obligation to the general public. (2) Creativity: being able to think outside of the box is a unique advantage in problem solving situations. (3) Collaborating: interdisciplinary collaborations and working together in diverse teams are key to success.
