    CSR builds credibility and trust in corporations, and can improve their reputations. For companies looking for these benefits, it is essential to include CSR in the business strategy and to consider the cultural and social differences of the community in which the corporation operates. This text proposes that culture has an impact on the type of CSR a company chooses, and that differences in culture influence communication. If a company does not consider these influences, it will not be
    as effective in promoting its CSR topics. This comparative case study will show the
    impact of culture on internal and external communication in regards to CSR.
    By taking a closer look at US-Americans and Germans, the author describes key cultural differences, concludes which CSR topics are important for each of these populations, and finally shows how choosing a mismatched CSR topic can have little or even negative results for the company.

    Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schafft Vertrauen, baut Glaubwürdigkeit auf und steigert die Reputation von Unternehmen. Damit dies erreicht werden kann, ist eine angemessene Planung und Einbindung von CSR in die Unternehmensstrategie und -kommunikation genauso wichtig wie die Berücksichtigung der kulturellen Gegebenheiten, in denen das Unternehmen agiert. Sollten diese Voraussetzungen gegeben sein, ist eine sinnvolle Kommunikation über CSR möglich. Gerade international agierende Unternehmen stehen vor der Herausforderung, ihre Kommunikation erfolgreich in den einzelnen Ländern und unterschiedlichen Kulturkreisen umzusetzen. Betrachtet man CSR als Instrument der Kommunikation, ist es umso bedeutender, dass dieses Instrument den lokalen Anforderungen gerecht wird, da sonst der Effekt, der über die Kommunikation erreicht werden soll, verloren geht oder anders ausgedrückt, schlicht keinerlei Beachtung in den Medien erreicht wird.

    Due to the growing trend in urbanization, city logistics becomes of paramount importance to provide the inhabitants of cities with vital goods. Targets of city logistics are the relief of the strain on the transport infrastructure and the reduction of mostly direct emissions such as nitric oxide. The German CEP industry (courier, express and parcel) plays a major role in supplying cities with necessary goods. However, it also has negative impacts on the quality of living in urban areas such as exhaust and greenhouse gas emissions and blocked roads. To dampen these negative effects, the CEP service provider UPS (United Parcel Service) uses micro depots as a more sustainable alternative for parcel delivery.
