Wikiexploación is the name given by Wikimedistas de Bolivia to a series of photography activities that took place in the Bolivian rural area, with the purpose of depicting its natural richness. Thanks to the alliance with Scouts groups in Cochabamba, Bolivia, as with the Red Polinizar (“Pollinization Network”) of communities in the agrotourism field, several images of flora and fauna, as well as agricultural and touristic processes in Bolivian rural communities, have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.
In 2023, our group organized a visit to Cochabamba’s Parque Tunari, along with the local Scout Group “Alemán”, and set out to explore and picture the park’s nature. As a product of that, a coloring book with information about species was created and titled Especies del Parque Tunari. This event helped foster new alliances in 2024, allowing more Scout groups to participate in the regional activity for Wiki For Human Rights 2024, which they supported by turning many pictures in to the photo contest, and also during the Wiki Loves Earth campaign, uploading nearly 500 pictures that were taken for the campaign. We hope to catch the attention of other Scout Groups in Bolivia, and thus reach new alliances that can allow us to take these activities to every corner of the country.
In 2024, Wikimedistas de Bolivia contacted Red Polinizar (“Pollinization Network”) to fund the participation of 6 photographers (both newcomer and experienced) who wished to depict the natural and cultural beauty of Bolivia. Among them, three received full scholarships, and the other three received partial scholarships. This alliance produced more than 70 pictures uploaded, both from La Paz and other places in Bolivia.
Our wish at Wikimedistas de Bolivia is to continue this project in 2024 and on. The results we achieved so far are very satisfactory and meaningful, adding to the content about Bolivia on Wiki and the Internet as a whole.
