Progress made: DJI urges continued advocacy against drone ban

Last week, DroneDJ reported that the US Senate has released its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and it does not currently include provisions that would impact your right to use DJI products in the future. While this is a positive development, drone maker DJI is quick to stress there’s more to watch out for.

The tech giant took to social media today to share its perspective on the latest developments regarding a potential DJI drone ban in the US.

Unlike the version passed by the House of Representatives last month, the Senate’s version does not include language that would affect DJI’s operations in the US.

This is why, first and foremost, DJI extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took action over the past few weeks. Many drone enthusiasts and industry stakeholders reached out to their senators and representatives to oppose any legislation that would limit the safe and responsible use of DJI drones. “Thank you for making your voices heard,” DJI said, acknowledging the crucial role of community engagement in influencing legislative outcomes.

However, DJI cautions that the fight is far from over. The Senate’s NDAA will soon be up for floor consideration, where the Countering CCP Drones Act could potentially be added as an amendment. Moreover, the House and Senate versions will be reconciled in a conference committee, which could still result in the demand for a DJI ban being included in the final bill sent to the President.

DJI emphasizes that the current Senate bill’s exclusion of the Countering CCP Drones Act is a positive sign, reflecting the power of collective advocacy. Yet, the tech giant urges continued vigilance and action. With Congress in recess during August, DJI highlights this period as an opportune time for the US drone community to engage with their local senators and representatives.

DJI encourages users to visit the Drone Advocacy Alliance website to stay informed and continue advocating for their rights. As DJI put it, “There are still ways for bills like the Countering CCP Drones Act to be incorporated into the FY25 NDAA or other legislative packages in the coming months.”
