The microwave range in which the EHT is sensitive does not easily show the thermal emissions that dominate the spectra of an accretion disc. Rather, the EHT is sensitive to the synchrotron radiation given off by electrons caught in the plasma vortex whipped up by M87*'s rotation. Those microwave photons are then caught in M87*'s photon sphere, their anisotropic escape from which creates the ring. Inserted correct image. undo Tag: Visual edit
