The affiliation permitted it to start M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree programs in computer engineering. It was inaugurated by the then [[Ministry of Science and Technology (Pakistan)|Minister of Science and Technology]] professor Dr. [[Atta-ur-Rahman (chemist)|Atta-ur-Rahman]].
