On March 7, 2023, a guest lecture by Texas A&M University professor Joy Alonzo at the [[University of Texas Medical Branch]] (UTMB) criticized Texas Lieutenant Governor [[Dan Patrick (politician)|Dan Patrick]]'s role in the [[Opioid epidemic|opioid crisis]].
