From 11 to 17 September 2018, the [[Vostok 2018]] military exercise took place in the district.
InBy the end of January 2022, the headquarters of the Eastern Military District reportedly deployed to [[Belarus]] inagainst the contextbackdrop of thea [[2021–2022 Russo-Ukrainian crisis|Ukrainenew flare-up of the crisis over Ukraine]].
