In May 2005, several recommendations relating to Andrews AFB were made by the [[2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission|Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission]]. The most significant was to realign Naval Air Facility (NAF) Washington, by relocating it's installation management functions to Andrews AFB, thereby establishing Joint Base Andrews-Naval Air Facility Washington.{{Sfn|Department of Defense|2005|p=H&SA-41}}
