The [[Mo'ao]] ({{lang|zh|莫敖}}) and the [[Prime minister (Chu State)|Lingyin]] ({{lang|zh|令尹}}) were the top government officials of Chu. Sima was the military commander of Chu's army. Lingyin, Mo'ao and Sima were the San Gong ({{lang|zh|三公}}) of Chu. In the Spring and Autumn period, Zuoyin ({{lang|zh|左尹}}) and Youyin ({{lang|zh|右尹}}) were added as the undersecretaries of Lingyin. Likewise, Sima ({{lang|zh|司馬}}) was assisted by Zuosima ({{lang|zh|左司馬}}) and Yousima ({{lang|zh|右司馬}}) respectively. Mo'ao's status was gradually lowered while Lingyin and Sima became more powerful posts in the Chu court.<ref>{{Cite book|title=中國早期國家性質|publisher=Zhishufang Press|year=2003|isbn=9789867938176|pages=372}}</ref>
