==Geography and Climate==
Melton is located on mostly flat, largely featureless, former volcanic plains.

To the south-east of Melton is [[Mount Cottrell, Victoria|Mount Cottrell]], a blast-shield volcano, and to the north-east of the suburb is Mount Kororoit. Mount Cottrell produced some of the largest lava flows in the western Victoria.<ref>{{Cite book |last=Bracey |first=Lucy |title=Growth, Progress and Community Spirit: a history of Melton and Districts |publisher=City of Melton Council |year=2019 |isbn=978-0-646-99204-4 |pages=3}}</ref> These two volcanoes are some of the easternmost volcanoes on the Victorian Volcanic Plain which extends to the South Australian border.

Melton receives less rainfall than nearby Melbourne, owing to its position within the Otways rain shadow, this is most pronounced in Winter.
Nights in Melton are generally cooler than Melbourne due to the urban heat island effect. Winter days are also Colder due to Melton's relative altitude. No official temperature data is held for Melton, however precipitation records are found.
