Heinrich Rudolf Hertz was born in

Kirchhoff]] and [[Hermann von Helmholtz]]. In 1880, Hertz obtained his PhD from the [[University of Berlin]], and for the next three years remained for post-doctoral study under Helmholtz, serving as his assistant.
