After three seasons in the [[Western Hockey League]] with the [[Moose Jaw Warriors]], Laplante made his professional debut with Red Wings' [[American Hockey League|AHL]] affiliate, the [[Adirondack Red Wings]] in the [[1997-98 AHL season|1997-98 season]]. He also appeared in two [[National Hockey League|NHL]] games with Detroit [[1997-98 NHL season|that season]].
Laplante spent the next two seasons in the Red Wings organization. He then was selected in the [[2000 NHL Expansion Draft]] by the [[Minnesota Wild]].
