Line 1:
In medicine, metabolic acidosis is a state in which the blood pH is low (under 7.35) due to increased production of H+ by the body or the inability of the body to form bicarbonate (HCO3-) in the kidney. Its causes are diverse, and its consequences can be serious, including coma and death. Together with respiratory acidosis, it is one of the two general types of acidosis.

It is more correct to use the word acidemia to refer to a decrease in the blood´s pH, reserving acidosis or alkalosis to describe the processes leading to acidemia (a low blood pH) or alkalemia (a high blood pH). This is useful, because situations that produce alkalosis and acidosis may be present at a time in a given host.

To make matters simpler, lets say that acidosis and alkalosis are like the factors in an addition operation.

Acidemia or alkalemia are like the result of that addition operation.
