I removed a big chunk of text from the "Production" section about the history of Popeye and spinach, including a detailed description of a Mad Magazine parody of the movie. There were no citations and a few weasel words, plus it doesn't really need that much detail in the "Production" section. If someone wants to add a section on differences between the movie, comic, and cartoon, that would be a better place for it. Popeye was ahead of its time when it was produced in 1984. Having always been my favorite movie of all time, the production itself is a testament to a genre of its own. Never since its release, has another movie accomplished what Roger Altman did with Robin Williams and the citiznes of Sweethaven.

Williams spent many months watching the original Popeye cartoons so that he could effectively immitate the voice, movements and persona of the cartoon character. And his efforts proved make the movie so authentic. Never again in movie history do I think an actor can achieve what Williams, and Shelly Duval brought to the big screen in Popeye.

Popeye is a testament to what originality, creativity, and true character-based acting can bring to the Hollywood screen. Genius and acting always triumphs over special effects and name recognition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.182.139.1 (talk) 17:45, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
