The fort
had a <ref>[http://www.arlingtonhistoricalsociety.org/learn/sites_properties/military_use.html]perimeter of 429 yards and emplacements for 12 guns.</ref> It was superseded by [[Fort Richardson (Arlington, Virginia)|Fort Richardson]] and Fort Craig which both are 1300 yards to the west and the other 1300 yards to the north. No trace of the fort remains, although an historic marker shows the location where the fort once stood, guarding the approach to the [[Long Bridge]] along the [[Columbia Pike (Virginia)|Columbia Turnpike]], near the modern-day [[The Pentagon|Pentagon]]. The ground on which the Fort stood was cut away during the construction of the [[Henry G. Shirley Memorial Highway]], in 1942.
Fort Albany has been recognized as an [[List of Arlington County Historic Districts|Historic District]] by Arlington County.
